Eamonn Dolan in today's Examiner

Dolan -Doyle deal was act of revenge.
By Jon West
Kevin Doyle’s controversially inexpensive transfer from Cork to Reading in 2005 has been revealed to be an act of revenge carried out by the brother of City’s sacked manager Pat Dolan.
Dolan’s twin, Eamonn, is on the coaching staff at Reading and angered by his siblings sacking, immediately tipped off the then Championship side that Doyle could be bought for just e117,000
Eamonn Doyle told the Irish Examiner: “It’s a simple story. Pat was bizarrely sacked for being too successful, too ambitious and too good by whoever was running Cork at the time.
“The thing about Pat was that he would not let us have any of his players while he was there. He always had loyalty to Ireland also, but that was of no interest to me once he had been sacked by Cork – especially the way he had been treated”
Reading also snapped up Shane Long as part of the Doyle deal – even though Pat Dolan had tipped him to be a future Republic star.
His brother said “Pat had already said he was potentially Ireland’s best ever player and that was some recommendation considering he had not being playing football for long. Before that he had been a hurler.
“So it has certainly been a good deal for Reading. Something must have been right at Cork City at the time – but not in the boardroom”.

"Pat was bizarrely sacked for being too successful"

That gave me a laugh anyway.
Amazingly he's not the only one who believes it.

Sure he only signed for Cork in an act of revenge so you're hardly in a position to complain about it...

I wonder how Eamon Dolan knew about a confidential clause in Kevin Doyles contract?

Pat Dolan was sacked because he criticised his boss in public & more importantly encouraged his staff (players) to do likewise. If any one did that in their job they'd be kicked out the door without compensation or else Eamon Dolans version.
