Clive Delaney has been released by West Ham. Wouldn't he be a great signing for us ? Imagine him with Murray at the back. Don't know if its a runner , he probabley go to one of the Dubs but I hope Dolan tries for him anyway.

Yeah, he would be a good signing but the urgent need is for a midfielder.

Sign Delaney.
Push Benno into midfield.

Would solve one problem anyway.

Bohs would not sign Delaney as too many centre halfs already & he might not get a game.
Would $hel$ go for him?

Delaney may not be looking to come back to the eL but would be a good fit for city. City need to stop signing squad players & only sign players that will be an improvement to the 1st eleven.

I'd be thinking along them lines aswell Pete.
Benno is doing a great job at the back (and that's where I'd see him long-term) but for the time being we need something better in MF. IMO Greg or Grady aren't up to the job of running midfield. Greg does a lot of work but he needs someone to give the ball to and let them spray the passes around. Benno for the time being.

Didn't he have an agreement with his employers that if he came home in the summer he'd get his job back at price cooper waterhouse???? Not much point in signing him if he's going to live in the pale

He's on a six month leave of absence from PWC. I have a feeling that if he abandons his accountancy studies, he has to start his 3½ year training contract over again when he returns to accountancy.

Anyway, the West Ham website had originally reported that he was close to signing a new deal, only to say the next day that he was being released. That sounds like he was very close to the grade, so there should be another decent English side willing to take him on, and he'd go for that over a return to Ireland now.

I really dont think we need to add defenders to our squad- theres benno, murray, hoggie, carey, hedderman, daly, andrews, napier, lordan, cronin, k.murray, etc... do we really want another one????

And i think that murray and benno are doing outstanding this year- fair play to them- the whole defence are keeping city in the game and its only due to the midfield not relieving the pressure from them that they are conceeding late goals- they can only do so much.

Ok greg is top class but he is more of the defensive midfielder , so we need a creative midfielder who will go and support the two forwards

Loads of players but short on quality!

There were reports in a paper today saying that West Ham may still sign him back, Hibs are interested in him and so too are Wimbledon.
If he does decide to come back I can't see him leaving the pale. He would be a great quality signing though.

Where'd you read that? Sounds very strange...

Surely just playing Napier and moving Bennet into the midfield would do that without getting yet another center back.

Ya it would do, but a delany/murray partnership would be better than a napier/murray one IMO. I say "look to improve not make do.."

Doubt that very much - if it's professional qualifications you can stay where you are indefinately as long as you keep paying your subs...

Cheers, Ozzy! Seeing as I'm doing the same, I'd better have been right or I'm going to have to reassess my position!:D

Hibs in Scotland are supposed to be interested.

hibs wouldn't be a bad move for him, he could have a cut off noel hunt for me. ;)

i always rated him (even though i thought he was the lankiest, most frustrating...). he always seemed to put on a good show against us, and UCD are lost without him and barry ryan, who basically kept the rest of the league at bay last season.

pineapple stu, it shocks me to my very core to learn that you are a budding accountant.
