No, they will be playing the winner of Shamrock Rovers-UCD away in the semi. The winners of that semi will have home advantage in the final.

We completely outclassed Lims. I missed the first three goals but there was plenty of entertainment watchin the lastd hour. The passing was excellent right throughout the game, the ball nearly always played simple on the ground, we missed a peno at 5 nil up and we lost it at the back for awhile which allowed the two goals back. But after that the lads gathered it together and pressed on again. Well done to Billy and the lads.

seems to be a good crop there,if your good enough your old enough i reckon so lets try get at least 5 of them signed up for the first team squad next season.(that also means shedding about 7/8 of the current squad but thats for another thread.

Wouldn't that be a good one! Billy is doing well and in a few years time I have no doubt he will be asked to move to first team management. For the moment let him concentrate on getting more experience. As for the U21s coming through I think it would be difficult to judge how many would make it as we are going into our second season in top flight and therefore will need considerable experience in the squad. Im sure Tony and Goughie know who they want, they are at all the U21 games in Terryland anyway.

As far as I know 2 u21s are signed or signing full Pro contracts next season - Jonathan Keane and Jason Molloy. There are 1 or 2 more who are pushing hard but I was dissappointed to see Keith Ward is gone back to Hibs.

Cathal Fahy looks to be getting better with every game. Strong on the ball, good worker and a great finisher.

Those two (Keane and Molloy) are good contributors to the U21 and I'd second Trbesman about Fahy. He can go on mazy runs and leave the defence for dead and has scored some dingers too. These guys would obviously be fringe players we'll just have wait and see if they can make the grade.

hope it is true about the 2 lads, great to see local lads getting the chance. galwegians always seem to give a bit more for the cause!

Yes, the locals in the first team squad have really excelled this year.

Anyone know when and where the semi-final against UCD is on?

Will go and support the lads if I'm off work, though the last time I tried to get to an u21 game against Bray I missed the first 60 minutes looking for the ground!

as have some of the mercenaries

hopefully some of the young crop can become terryland legends like miko nolan, chick deacy, tommy lally, jimmy nolan, mike quirke and billy cleary. i remain to be convinced that some of those brought in offer more than what is available locally.

Is there anyone on here interested in travelling to the game on Saturday? We could get a train or bus and we could all stay with JC! Seriously though would there be much interest?

That would depend on how late the Menlo Park goes on Friday Night.

One of the players said it was a fairly even game and that we were stung by 2 early goals.
Still,good season.

:eek::D

Galway didn't even manage to get a shot on target. We dominated first half (had about 90% possession) and 2-0 at half time was not a reflection of the half. Took the foot off the pedal in second half but we were still by far the most dangerous team.

Fair play to the Galway players though, never gave up.

2 players that have regularly been in first team squad were in the starting line up. They have been with the U21s all season though. 5 others have made their debut for the first team this season.

The U21's were outmuscled by a UCD team team that had seemed to have an inch or two on average each in height across the park on the Galway players and were more bulked up physically. First half United could hardly get a hold of the ball and to be honest UCD deserved their 2-0 half time lead.

As DmanDmythDledge said however the lads never gave up and despite the defeat can be proud of their performance. A few players stood out - our numbers 5, 6 and 10 (molloy) especially.

About 15 to 20 United supporters at the game - some were parents, Tony Cousin was there with his kids, also spotted Fran Carter.
