That would explain why Drogs didn't get the presentation after the game against Cork.

Pics are available through http://www.sportsfile.com/ - just click "Latest Photos" and it should be one of the first links shown

Standing at 36 inches in height and with a circumference of 33 inches, the Sterling Silver trophy boasts a stunning and unique design that will make it instantly recognisable to football fans across the country.

Certainly different - reminds me of the trophy handed out to the winners of the Norwegian Cup

What happened to the old one?

Was it lost in the Shels jumble-sale?

Arguably this is a "new" Premier Division so why would it be awarding the previous leagues trophies?

Don't like having the FAI logo - which they seem to alter at a whim - on it though.

i think this is just another result of the "rebranding" of the league to the control of the FAIlure.

Seen the old League Trophy on the RTÉ coverage this season in studio iirc

I like the trophy - though as has been pointed out, it's just another step in the FAI re-branding of the league now that it's 'theirs'.

Looks like a chalice (providing opportunity for quips about it beign a poison one.... :))

It's not a bad trophy there's influences from lots of different Cups yet it doesn't look exactly like any one of them. This is as has already been stated part and parcel of the FAI taking ownership of the League for the first time.
Drogheda will be proud to have it in their trophy cabinet regardless.

I like it. Should be banned from all football grounds on the basis of it being a potential weapon.

I normally hate trophies being changed but the old LOI trophy was pretty awful TBH.

New one would be better without the ball peeking out of the top of it IMO.

Can You drink from it????? doesnt look like it unless that football thing is a lid. Apart from the FAI logo and possible uselessness as a receptacle of booze i like the design!

I like it. There's a nice look to it. Looks a lot grander than the old trophy, which imo looked more like somehting handed out to cup winners.

Was in the Rovers office earlier in the season and the Under-21 Futsal League trophy was on display. The Futsal trophy was a smaller version of this trophy so perhaps this is the 'standard' design now.

BTW, where do you hang the ribbons on it? That's the only downside to it I think. Trophies should always have handles for ribbons to hang from.

Good point, but not that big a deal. Look at the various Sheilds in football - incl the old FAI Shield, the English Community Shield etc. You can't put ribbons on them.

Or the current World Cup - the best looking sports trophy in existence, in my view. Ribbons are a bit old fashioned nowadays..

Can't drink out of it :(. It is extremely heavy and seems to be built for robustness. They were probably fed up of the 'old style' cups getting dented during the celebrations. It would take some effort to dent this and god help anyone it accidentally falls upon its huge :p

On a slightly related topic - do City get to keep the League Cup now that we've won it 3 years in-a-row ?

I mean keep the old trophy officially - not just keep it technically, which is what we seem to be doing most of the time anyway..... :D

if only there was a trophy for the longest period without a Cup win.

It could be an entry into Europe and the new "European Cup Specialists Cup"

;)
