View Full Version : Problem accessing the site

I was just wondering whether there were problems with the site today as I tried plenty of times but I couldn't access it. I was posting from a college network so maybe there was just a problem with that. Thanks...

PS. Not sure if this is in the right forum. If not feel free to move it.

I think it was gone for everyone.

It made baby Jesus cry.

I almost fell asleep in work multiple times this afternoon because I didn't have foot to keep me awake.

I'm going home now. :)

Foot.ie'll be a bit hit and miss for the rest of the week, I have to migrate it to a new server as this one is slowly but surely dying on me. the outage this afternoon was my fault though, brought the new server up on the Foot.ie IP, which confused Foot.it to the point of suicide. Sorry about that, hope y'all didn't have to do too much work. :)

Big increase in productivity, not sure how I will explain the drop next week... :o

I did discover this site called google though...

Thanks for the replies. Don't know what I'll do for the rest of the week if it's not working though. :(

It'll be working, I just can't guarantee it'll be up 100% of the time. Hopefully ye won't even notice. Either way, all to the greater good an' all that.

Two more implicit threats from the clueless muppet today. All of his posts were accidentally deleted immediately afterwards, and his email address was accidentally blackholed. You have to wonder about these people.

By the way – was just wondering there as I am due to meet the Revenue man tomorrow – just curious like – do you pay PAYE on the revenue earned from the ads on your sites?? Curious as I am thinking of doing something similar myself like and I was wondering if you minded me using your name and sites as a template???

PAYE on the revenue earned from ads?!

Revenue have a policy of ignoring balances under a fiver...

In all seriousness, the revenue isn't that bad, it more than paid for the hosting in the past (although it'll be a while before it pays for the new server).

It was the very idea of paying PAYE on income that made me laugh, and of course the implicit threat to tell tales and steal my identity and/or sites.

Again, you have to wonder. I mean this guy is an adult like, he has a job in some natural healthcare company. Too many funny pills I reckon.

Thanks Metrostars. And with that, Foot.ie will be offline for the next hour or so while I have a go off a migration. Sorry! :)

:)

The downtime here is very low from my experience, though I'd suggest patience over the next week or so. There can be teething problems with new hardware.

Adam, do we need to modify our hosts files in the short term?

dahamsta

Nah, should be ok. I'll be mapping a /29 to the server as the migration continues, so if the current IP address is blocked, ye'll be able to pick another one.

Any problems? Foot.ie's been running on a new - like shiny, out of a box like - server for a few days now.

A blip there as I was loading the page. Everything seemed down for about 30 seconds. That's it so far.

That's just me restarting the server after switching back on the redirect from www.foot.ie to foot.ie.

Seems to me like the crap filter has been off since the upgrade. At least I'm noticing more of it recently

Running slow tonight. Got a 'Database Error' message earlier too.

dahamsta
11/11/2007, 11:28 PM
It was slow earlier because I was tuning the database after setting up replication with another server; which also meant I had to take it offline for a little while. It shouldn't be slow now though.

Entirely off-topic but the opportunity presented itself so I said I'd let ye in on a bizarre happening on footie last night at about half two or so. There were maybe ten members and about 100 guests, typical traffic for the time of day, online at the time, with, wait for it, a frankly staggering 37, yes 37, of those people viewing the Football Feeds segment of the site. By far the most I've ever seen to view that area. Mad altogether. I had a look to see what was going on, thinking maybe a Q&A with Stan or something, but no, very little of interest at all. Perhaps some gremlin or other but regardless it was probably the highlight of my day to see such an oddity.

The database server died earlier for reason best known only to itself. No idea what happened there.

That post/notion scares me for some reason.

Thanks for the explanation all the same. I suppose a little fright in the morning is no bad thing, wake me up a bit.

dahamsta

It wouldn't've been googlebots, as they're prevented from showing up in the results, but it would have been another search engine vB doesn't know about.
