Rooney wants action on Genesis report

New CEO of the FAI, Fran Rooney met with the officers of the Association for the first time today and immediately stressed that the recommendations of the Genesis report must be implemented sooner rather than later.

The report was commissioned to investigate the performance of Ireland at the World Cup – in playing AND administrative matters – following the well-documented trip to Saipan, the Roy Keane debacle and the procedures put in place by the FAI.

"The implementation of the Genesis report is fundamental to bringing the Association to a new level of professionalism. The Genesis report provides a very clear pathway for the Association,“ he said.

"It is imperative that this work continue with pace. Football in Ireland has a very bright future but change was required to transform the Association into a world-class organisation.

"While there is an undoubted need to bring further professionalism to the Association, it is important to also recognise the positive platform upon which we can build."
