Monaghan United head to the centre of Ireland on Saturday to take on Athlone Town in the FAI eircom League of Ireland First Division. This will be a hard fought game as only goal difference keeps United ahead of Athlone in the table and the midlanders will be hoping that there will not be a repeat of their last encounter when Monaghan beat them 1-0.
United may still be without number one goal keeper Alvin Rouse who is struggling with injury and Mick may also have to plan without striker Willie Doyle who has been suffering with knee problems. Jason McCartney, Peter D’arcy and Stephen Finnegan will all be out for the remainder of the season due to various injuries.
Manager Mick Cooke is hopeful ahead of Saturday’s game “despite our many injuries we did well against Shelbourne last week and the squad are still eager to prove themselves so will be giving it their all against Athlone.”
The Athlone Town Stadium, will host United for only the second time this season. A 0-0 scoreline was the result from the last encounter at the new stadium but Mick Cooke & Co will be on a mission to get all 3 points to ensure that they stay ahead of “de Town” in the league. Kick off is at 7pm.
LIST OF INJURIES AND SUSPENSIONS:
Injuries:
Alvin Rouse (doubtful)
Willie Doyle (doubtful)
Jason McCartney (ankle)
Peter D’arcy (groin)
Stephen Finnegan (knee)
Suspensions:
None
