Great plan there ! Good level of detail, repetition (to drive the message home) and breadth of activities.

Hope it works out for yee's in the crowd on Sunday !

Any word on how many Longford expect to bring to the game ?

Good to see that level of planning and organisation - one little quibble - shouldn't Sunday's activities include - Beat Longford Town in Ford FAI Cup semi-final?:)

Fair play fellas.Do you think it will be hard to convince students to come out
and give the team su[pport in this match and possibly the final.Did many come out for the final in the eighties?
How about generating publicity by holding a competition for sub editors of the national press-winner is most original heading and avoiding the usual nauseating "students fail test" or whatever.

I've an SU exec meeting tonight, i'll get them to email all the class reps etc and hopefully some will come.

Also did you think of flyers in res accommodation as loads of them will not be going home and a fair few erasmus students might be tempted to come down to the game.

We got 289 for an unimportant match against Cork on a Monday so I'd say they will be much more at the game on Sunday. I'd say there's a slight chance of a sell out overall (2,500).

Wouldn't agree. We're talking a lecture night versus the middle of a Bank Holiday weekend. I'd say we'd be doing well to get 289 students.

Dunno about a sell out either, tbh. Still, would hope for 1500 or so.

Bald Student

The ground has 1,500 seats so anything above that we can call a sell out.

I actually like that idea.:D

I'm afraid this Sunday kick off is going to severely decrease the chances of a student being bothered to come to the game. All the promotion for the game can't hurt in waking the students up the fact we have a club though.

Think it was 2,100 for the League Cup final midweek. I'd be fairly confident that there will be more away fans this time, plus it's a bigger game and more promotion has been done. I'd be dissapointed if we got less that 2,000.

Poor Student
25/10/2007, 8:21 PM
I'd be pleased with 1,100/1,200, pleasantly surprised with 1,500 and shocked with 2,000. As low as 800-900 wouldn't shock me sadly.

There were 600 Derry fans down for that; that's a good crowd which Longford won't beat that easily. I agree that the promotion has been a lot better this time though. I'm just naturally sceptical.

Titan - any update on ticket sales?

Was out in Belfield yesterday, and, for the first time in memory saw enough posters to convince even the dimmest Gah/ Rugger loving first year that something was going on......
Also saw someone in a Shamrock Rovers shirt in the library. That's definitely a first.

Just checked my UCD.Connect email - why isn't there a message there telling me about it? mind you I almost never use it, and i bet not many do....

Thanks for that dont forget to tell them to shout for UCD hahahaha.

Residences are being done today. Youre right about not all students being away. There shud be quite a few hanging around this weekend. It's just a matter of telling them about it and hoping they turn up.

I had thought of investing in some really pointy sticks and going round the residences on Sunday at 2:30 and rounding up the students but my boss, Who is a solicitor by trade, felt there may be legal issues around it!

Matrin Butler, Vice President for students actually did include the game as part of his regular e-mails. The club doesn't have the power to get at the general connect e-mail list. Our CPO is not considered an employee of the college.

There's been a series of radio ads on Newstalk today promoting both the Friday night Semi-final and the UCD -Longford game on Sunday. So the FAI has at least got the finger out for something.

On another note, how many fans are UCD realistically hoping to get along for this one?

Impossible to tell. The promotion is probably stronger than the League Cup Final, when there was 2100 there, with 600 from Derry. I do think with the game being in the middle of the Bank Holiday though, that that will reduce the crowd.

Although does anyone go away for the October Bank Holiday?

1,250 was the attendence. Thought it was a 50-50 split in the crowd.

from the telly it looked at least 80/20 maybe saw about 10 UCD Jerseys.Thats a shocking crowd for a cup semi couldnt see any other club drawing as small support as taht at home and yes that includes Monoghan/Kilkenny and Kildare.

1250 official attendance, and from the numbers cheering when they scored, about 500 of that was Longford.

almost looked as bad as a half empty landsdowne road when the cup finals were played there
Seen as it wasn't half empty, the main stand being near full, that's some achievement.
