farce the way the FAI handled this press conference

Its an absolute joke, if this is some attempt at putting one over on the press then it is pretty illconceived.

Had to laugh when Bill O'Herlihy asked Dunphy what he thought about the FAI's actions regarding the press and the press conference and Dunphy goes; Bill you are in PR, what do you think about it. I thought that was funny anyway.

Yeah, they are really ****ing me off at this stage. This better be dramatic for the time that I've wasted.

It really shows that the Delaney and the FAI are living in their own loony disneyland. Holding a news conference in the early hours of the morning. Why? It's insane stuff. And these are the same people who are to choose the new manager. FFS.

I'm going to go out on a limb here - I harbour no ill feeling whatsoever towards Stan. He was completely incompetent and deserves the sack but I will remember him for leading us out in our first competition I can properly remember (I was a bit too wee for USA '94!) and for being a good servent to Irish football as a player. I have no doubt he did his best, unfortunatly it was not close to good enough.

And to all you who say you wouldn't take the payoff - fair play to ye. A contract is a contract - if it is severed early, you are entitled to the payoff. We all know that to support the FAIreland team is to be ripped off and buttf****d on a regular basis, yet we do it anyway, because we're Irish and we're odd that way.

Can't say I'm not delighted though. Onwards and upwards.

I really dont see what the problem is regarding the lateness of the press conference.

Staunton is long gone from the meeting, so why the delay with the press conference, wielding their limited power I'd say.

It looks like that the delay is regarding the pay off and Kennedy negotiating with the FAI and playing hardball with them. THat has been the delay.

Tony O'D is on the warpath. He is claiming that they are still negotiating Stauntons payoff, holy crap Staunton take your 30 pieces and move along.

I hope those press tv/radio guys are freezing their balls off standing outside the Crowne Plaza. :)

Delaney and co. are either in the bar, watching a re run of MU in the CL or are tucked up in bed. :D

Are the current bulletins just recorded? Makes sense, not like there is usually major breaking sports news in the middle of the night. FAI take note.

SSN's last live bulletin is at 11pm. From 12-6am is repeats only, no matter what's going on. Sky News are the only ones on live until then.

Sky just run the tape loop all night.

Nothing on RTE news on the hour, now it's back to music for insomniacs and seriously drugged out jazz lovers.

I'm off to bed, I'll say a prayer for those hacks being tortured out there.

Stan's gone, by mutual consent, according to 1.30am sports bulletin on BBC 5 live sports news, bye Stan.

Who will the FAI pick as his successor?

Seriously I wish Stan all the best, he should not have been offered the job in the first place. It's no job for a managerial novice to take on.
The blame lies with the FAI.

So, did RTE broadcast the press conference live?
I dozed off somewhere around 1.30am!

good riddance to the worst Irish manager ever. Two years we will never get back. managing his country meant nothing to him as much as the money he was getting.

cant agree with that, stan was 100% committed , he was just useless.

I feel sorry for Stan in a way, what Stapleton said in prime time last night was bang on. When Bobby was sick they should have brought someone else in, he was promised an advisor not a dead man walking.

All the Best Stan

Worse than Don Givens?

What I don't understand is the decision to give Givens the job for the next match .. which if we don't win, could be disastrous in terms of seedings.

Surely, Bobby Robson could manage one game .. although would not want to see another Jock Stein event versus Wales.

FAI should appoint Giles, Dunphy and Brady for the Wales game .. just to see how they would fare managing the team! Although they would be unbearable if they led Ireland to victory. Joking of course.

Agreed, thats why we need a strong manager that will have no qualms about dropping Robbie as captain if he feels that it is the right thing to do.

Staunton's record:

Played 17, Won 6, Drew 6, Lost 5. Goals scored: 24. Conceded: 19.

Kerr's record after 17 games:

Played 17, Won 10, Drew 5, Lost 2. Goals scored: 19. Conceded: 10.

It just goes to show two things: how abysmal Staunton's reign was, even compared to Kerr, who has gone down in history as a failure at this level. And, the goals for and against, shows where Kerr's strengths and weaknesses lay.

The new manager needs to sort out the defence (as Kerr did with similar players to what we now have). The rest should then follow, as we have much better attacking players than we had in Kerr's reign (Doherty, Morrison, etc)

Interesting statistics there Supreme feet. Sky Sports News were showing the win percentages for Irish managers back to Jack, Kerr had the highest, in the mid 50s I think. Though he did love to win his friendlies, to the detriment of developing the squad.

Kerr had the best record of the lot of em (read a similiar sort of thing with win % yesterday). Unfortunately our best results were friendlies :(
