Have heard the rumour but can guarentee you he hasn't signed a contract. he's been offered one by a Bohs (a very healthy one) but he's waiting for Pats to counter offer. pats have said no contract talks until the end of the season

Yes they have offered him one but he hasn't signed.

Murphy, Maguire and Foley are all also out of contract. They are part timers and want to stay like that but Pats want them to go full time. Rovers in the wings waiting to offer them contracts.

Barker and Quigely also out of contract and a lot of interest being showne in them from uk clubs.

Pat's could be a very interesting place during the close season.

It's odd that Johnny McDonnell has already been told he's going to be replaced when the season is over. Not a great way to motivate him for fighting for European places.

Where did you hear that he has been told this aside from an unsourced post on this forum?

I don't know if he's been told that. He's known at various points over the last few seasons that he's on thin ice. I think (based on nothing more than guesswork) that 2nd place and the non-availability of Stephen Kenny would allow him to stay on (although maybe not as far as the end of his contract which was extended when Kelleher/Kerr took over). The only viable alternative available would be Matthews.

I suppose it depends on more than results - mood in the boardroom/dressingroom etc. There is expected to be a turnover of coaching staff as well as players during the close season as the board tries to implement a genuinely full-time structure across the club.

I don't know if he's been told that.He had a meeting before the game with Rovers last week and was told Pat's were getting a whole new management team for next season. This has originally come from Pat's assistant manager;).

Looks like the news had the desired effect on the field.........

The entire coaching team were told they must go full time if they wanted to be kept on. Some aren't willing to do this.

Hope the news about Fahey is true. Wouldn't be a bad signing. I feel sorry for McDonnell. His job has been in doubt ever since Kelleher & Kerr came in.

His job has been in doubt ever since he nearly relegated us. Twice.

I don't really expect him to stay with us, but unless things have changed Matthews isn't particularly interested in full time.

Yeah a lad I know used to work with him in Ulster Bank. He'd asked him before about going to Shels but at the time they were looking for a fulltime manager and he wasn't going to give up his job.

Fact is full time isn't really an option for anyone with a decent job. Some excellent/ crazy money on offer, but too short term to give up a good job.

Paul Doolin recently resigned from the civil service. He had been on a career break before that...

Pats fans are very divided on the issue of John McDonnell, personally I think he should be given one more season especially seen as the club will be going full time, and Keith Fahey is a must stay player.

The club has been effectively full time the last couple of years (including manager). Some of our better players are part time (Maguire/Murphy) and I doubt we'll get better full timers than them

Doolin had been working two days a week in the job since before he was manager of UCD. So going down from two day week and part-time manager to being a full-time manager is not that big an adjustment. Given he's also just won his first Premier Division title as a manager means he's X% more employable if it goes pear shaped at United Park.

No matter who or what, it's a tough call at this stage of the league's development to shelve a job for full time football. The league is in its infancy with regard to fulltime set-ups and it could all quite easily go belly up in the next few years - or it could grow incrementally. Everybody's domestic / financial situation is different. Overall(s):) though, I'm all for this creeping professionalism.

Agreed. So does that mean if the likes of Murphy and Maguire will not go full time they will be shown the door or will they make exceptions ?

Don't honestly know. Our last attempt at "full time" meant we had to let go Liam Kelly and Willie Burke (one to Rovers, the other reitred) and we didn't replace them with better.

I hope we keep them but fear losing them...

Murphy is more than likely on his way out. He was messed about regarding a contract offer. Think he ended up being dropped after a small bust up with Jonny Mc.

His version is he was messed about. The other version is he messed about.

There definitely was a bust up
