Im hoping none of those games have anything to do with 2nd, cup semis will dictate what teams are out etc:
Think we will beat Cork on Monday then we have 12 days off before the game vs UCD.
Its ours to lose but hopefully the cup will effect how Cork and UCD play, think our home game vs Drogs is a banker :D
oh you spelt your own clubs name wrong :p

Interesting run-in all right, but we've been poor against the bottom half teams this season. Maybe the stakes will bring a change in attitude to these games.

We've the hardest run-in, Bohs with the easiest. I think it'l come down to the last day and us vs Bohs, once we can do the job on Monday.
If Pats win Monday it should be all there's

Everyone seems to think we are safe. I don't completely agree I'd like to see us with a few more points and after last night doubly so.

Going to be interesting anyway. Did not think it Bohs would be in with a chance of 2nd about 6 weeks ago considering the way they were playing but Pats are slight favourites but could be a good trip to Cork on the final day of the season.

The bookies view
5/4 Pats
7/4 Cork
9/4 Bohs
25/1 Rovers (http://www.stanjames.com/betting/index.asp?sl=sltc&gi=14&sltc=177958.2&sle=661339.2&slmt=639.1&kbid=1214)
I think Bohs have the momentum to take it, the final league game against Cork could be a straight playoff for 2nd place.

If Pats avoid defeat against Cork tomorrow, I'd expect them to finish second.

Champions & Champions League: Drogheda
UEFA Cup: League Runners-up & FAI Cup Winners
If the league runners-up win the FAI Cup, then 3rd place in the league qualifies for UEFA Cup.
Intertoto Cup: League 3rd place, or as above 4th place if cup winners finish either 2nd or 3rd.
Setanta Cup: Drogheda, FAI Cup Winners, UEFA Cup qualifier & Derry City or 1st Division Champions.
Bottlers: Shamrock Rovers

Drogheda have won the league and qualify for the Champions' League and Setanta.
Derry won the league cup and will play off against the first division winners, either Harps, Cobh or (very unlikely) Dundalk, for a Setanta place.
The cup winners: either Cork, Bohs, UCD or Longford will qualify for the UEFA Cup and Setanta.
The league runners up: either Cork, Pats, Bohs or (very unlikely) Rovers will qualify for the UEFA Cup and Setanta. If Cork or Bohs win the cup and finish second in the league, the third place team gets the UEFA Cup and Setanta place.
The third place team in the league: either Cork, Pats, Bohs or Rovers will qualify for the InterToto Cup. If Cork or Bohs win the cup and finish second or third in the league, the fourth place team gets the InterToto place.
Super win for Pats tonight. 3 wins and a draw in our last 5 games in Turners' Cross...
Anyway we now need 4 points to be absolutely certain of second place. We only need one point to guarentee 3rd place.

I will be more than happy if you give you that point as it would secure me €250. Also hopefully Bohs won't make it into the top 3- from what I've seen of them they're not as good as Pats, Cork or Rovers.
Pats very strong favourites for 2nd place now.
3rd is the best we can hope for now. If we win last 2 league games will guarantee it. Inter Toto not appealing.
Fridays Cup semi final all or nothing for Bohs-City.

As you are probably aware it will be Linfield, Glentoran, Dungannon and Cliftonville representing the CPL in the Setanta Cup. Expect a strong challenge from Linfield as always. The other teams will give a few problems and they might get the odd result but realistically given it will be towards the end of our season and they lack squad strength they’ll probably be unsuccessful. Although only 5 games into the league campaign Linfield, Glentoran and Cliftonville are all joint top. Dungannon however are languishing towards the bottom of the table.

Am I right in saying this is the first year without Portadown, and the first year with Cliftonville?
Its fairly interesting that at this stage of our season there's still loads and loads of teams in witha shout of Setanta
League winners - Drogheda
League Runners Up - Pats/Bohs/Cork
FAI Cup Winners - Cork/Bohs/UCD/Longford
Setanta Play off - Derry/Finn Harps/Cobh/Dundalk

Dundalk is stretching it, still 9 teams with realistic chances (8 after the weekend) is good.

Reckon you need a new anorak there Dman, Bohs have beaten Pats three out of four (drawn one), have beaten Cork City twice (lost one), two wins one draw one loss against Rovers and drew twice won once and lost once against Drogs. We didn`t challenge for the title this year because we were incapable of raising our game against minnow clubs like yours.

Waiting on Solicitors to get all papers signed, its a complicated dea, what with us being a co-op, the transfer of 2 pieces of land, the developers interest, etc, they cant make any f**k ups, so we hoping to get more news before the end of '07 and diggers to start by the start of '08. I suppose its just a waiting game. We were meant to be moved in for the start of this season so......................................
It would be a massive boost for us to gain that Setanta cup spot both financially and the shorter away trips to IL teams would be very welcome. I still think Derry would be favourites for this spot, but I can guarantee they will not relish coming up against us.
That said, this is counting our chickens and Cobh have still a massive say.

In fairness he may not be making the point in a politically correct manner but it has been Bohs inability to beat teams from the lower half of the table that has cost us any chance of a league title this year.
We have performed very well against teams in the top 5 of so but outside of that we have lost games to Longford,Sligo and UCD this year and that is what will inevitably stop us from coming first or in my opinion second now!

But what team doesn't have a "what if" line? We got 1 point off Bohs when our performances deserved 4/5. Give us 4 points extra and we're home and dried for second.
If it wasn't for our mid season slump we'd be challenging Drogheda.
Ifs and buts have no place in football.

Drogheda dont have any ifs or buts in terms of the league.....
Orginally Dalymountrower was trying to refute the argument made by Dman that Bohs are not a good side. Our record against the top sides clearly contests this.
I was merely pointing out where we have fallen down this season. And it has been our inconsistency.Excellent one week terrible the next. Not many teams in the league have had this jeckyl and hyde type characteristic to their performances this season.

Every team bar one has...
Every team bar one has...
Not to the extent Bohs have.Yes teams have had there good and bad patches during the season.Take Pats for example. You started very well and then hit a dip in form towards the middle of the season but are now back playing some really good stuff.
Bohs until the last few games have been totally inconsistent. We would beat Rovers then go and lose in Longford and follow this by beating Drogheda but then lose to Sligo. We didnt know which Bohs team would show up from week to week.
You would have to agree that no other team has had these traits unless you are going to continue to be pedantic about it...

Sounds familiar. Lose 3-0 in Derry, win in Drogheda, lose 4-1 to Cork, lose to Sligo, win in Derry. Five consecutive games.

Ok maybe Bohs AND UCD then had these sort of results but I wouldnt think many others had.Plus now Bohs have shown they can string results together after winning the last five league games it makes it all the more frustrating.

Well Its generally acknowledged that we play some of the best football in the IL and we are up there with the blues/glens at the moment so I'd say we'll do a bit better than the ports however our squad is small enough and we need to get a couple more players in especially a decent strkier!

Youse got 7 points off us OK, but only 2 off Drogheda, 3 (so far) off Cork and 4 off Rovers. Hardly a killer record.
