That was pretty bad. One for the purists as they said on the radio. Their fans were pretty good in fairness. I'd be sh1ttin it if I was Waterford, though it would be difficult for me to be a county in the first place. Sammo had a mare, even Tony didn't have much joy. Longford could have had another couple & all. On the brightside, we can't possibly be as lame next week.

Utterly ****e performance. The worst thing was that nobody seemed to give a ********. No shape to team either.

Was Paul Byrne on the bench last night?
No. Bench was Fran Moran, Tony Mc, Ev McMillan, Brian King, Matt Gregg.

Presumably. Could have played the U-21 game today to get 90 minutes under his belt.

When two teams play each other in the League and Cup in close proximity to each other in terms of time frame. Sometimes the team that wins the League game loses the Cup game.

UCD :- Quigley; Mahon, Kenna, McNally, Bermingham; C.Byrne, McFaul(McDonnell 58 mins), Finn, McWalter; Sammon, Hynes (Moran 58 mins)

The abject should be named and shamed :D

Forgot to mention that we had a blatant penalty not given for handball, with the referee (Pat Whelan) only yards away.

An early Dessie Baker strike set Longford on their way to all three points in Belfield and threatened to drag UCD back into the relegation dog fight after a scrappy game on Friday night.

Three changes were made to the team, with Ian Bermingham, Shane McFaul and Peter Hynes coming into the team, replacing Killian Gallagher, Tony McDonnell and Brian King. It was, therefore, pretty much a full strength team ahead of the Cup semi final between the same teams next Sunday.

The game started off at a good pace. After three minutes, Shane McFaul was brought down on the left; Alan McNally met the cross with a strong header which Shay Kelly got a strong hand to, and caught at the second attempt. A couple of minutes later, Longford nearly took the lead, but first Conor Kenna, and then McNally were on hand to put in last ditch tackles on the six yard line. When UCD did clear their lines, Conor Sammon was sent clear one on one, but was denied by a superb sliding tackle as he broke into the box.

Town took the lead on 13 after an uncharacteristic slip in the UCD defence - a long ball was put forward, and Alan McNally's clearance was straight to Dessie Baker, who took a touch and curled past Darren Quigley in the UCD goal.

The game got progressively scrappy, but there were a couple of decent chances for either side before the break - Dave Mooney was played through in space on the edge of the UCD box, but his shot on the turn was inches wide. It was a huge let off for UCD, as the league's top scorer had more time than he appeared to be aware of. Four minutes later, a sliced clearance from a Town defender let Conor Sammon in on nets, but Kelly was out just in time to head clear. And shortly before the break, a short free kick to Ian Bermingham on the edge of the box saw the number 3's shot deflected up, and Kelly had to scamper to punch away as the shot threatened to dip in under the bar.

In contrast, the second half saw very few chances, with UCD pressing more and more desperately for an equaliser, but passes went astray too often to build any sort of concerted pressure. Indeed, about the only chance in the game came in injury time when Darren Quigley was tackled trying to nutmeg a Town attacked, but with an open goal, the resulting shot was inches wide.

UCD - Quigley; Mahon, Bermingham, Kenna, McNally; McFaul (McDonnell 65), C Byrne, Finn, McWalter; Hynes (Moran 65), Sammon.

Att - 420

It can also happen that the league game is a draw.
It can also happen that the cup game is abandoned due to the outbreak of war.

In case you were wondering the incident I was referring to was a coup rather than a war as such which was postponed in Fiji a year or two ago so that a big rugby game could take place.
