Strength-in-depth the key – Kenny

Bohemians manager Stephen Kenny was happy that his side were able to produce an improved performance against Waterford United last Friday night, despite the fact that he made four changes to his starting line-up.

Bohs had faltered to two draws and a defeat since their opening night victory over UCD, a run of results which saw the defending champions in the bottom half of the Premier Division table.

The fortunate draw with Shamrock Rovers nine days ago, when Kevin Hunt fired an equaliser deep in stoppage time, prompted Kenny to make several changes to his side for the trip to face on-form Waterford.

Out went right back Damien Lynch, wingers Bobby Ryan and Mark Rutherford and striker Paul Keegan, their places going to Fergal Harkin, Dave Morrison, Robbie Doyle and 18-year-old Ukrainian Andrei Pereplyotkin.

Kenny was pleased that his side showed an improved standard of play: “I did change things around on Friday in reaction to a poor performance [against Rovers]. I think we showed that we can make four changes without weakening the side, which is encouraging.”

Goalkeeper Seamus Kelly, who did keep his place for the victory over the Blues, sustained a foot injury in that match, and will miss the League Cup meeting with Dundalk at Dalymount Park on Tuesday night.
