I still fancy Douglas hall to win it. A Douglas hall v's Mount Merrion/ Wayside final.
Avondale may go far if they continue to bring back their previous players. I heard Hartigan was back along with Bruton & Damien O' Connell
Anyone have any thoughts

It was a great win for Douglas Hall alright away to Greystones. Any report on the game...did they deserve it? It will be a tricky tie at home to Fanad though - they lost to them a couple of years ago after a replay. I saw the first game up in Douglas and the Hall battered them for 90 and Fanad snuck a late equaliser, and then beat them in the replay. They're resilient.
You have to count Swilly now as an outside bet after beating Cherry Orchard (top of LSL) away.
I would like to see Douglas Hall win it, but for me it's still hard to look past Rockmount. Their strength in depth is frightening!
There's a lot of controversy surrounding Mount Merrion (or Moneymen, as they're known) at the moment - there's a lot of money there and they're paying the majority of their players, so a lot of ex-LOI etc. have joined in the past two seasons. I'd love to see them play Rockmount at some stage in the competition...

I hear what your saying alright but I just think to keep things going on 2 fronts with the league and cup would be too much for both the Hall & Mount.
I fancy Rockmount alright for the league and do a 3 in a row but I just think the Hall will win something big this season.
I wouldn't be surprised if MM went out v's Wayside in the reply.
Your spot on about Swilly alright they're diffo one to be watched.
All the top sides are left bar Cherry Orchard
Rockmount
Hall
Bangor
Swilly
Wayside/MM
Avondale

Cracking cup this year, I'll not write off Avondale just yet. The lack of games isn't helping any of the Cork teams for continuity. Dale have only played 4 league games so far and it get's busier after Chrimbo traditionally.
Interesting to hear about the Mount Merrion situation, there seems to be a club like that every year or two in Dublin. Good luck to em, hope we beat em in the final mind you!

Mount Merrion have come up through the leagues of the LSL over the last 5 years, adding a few ex-EL players every year. They have 4 coaches, including Dave Connell, ex rovers and Dundalk, Sean Byrne, ex Dundalk, Howie King, ex Limerick. Players who have played over those years and left include the likes David McGill, Donal Broghan. At this stage their wage bill must be astronomical for a non league club. Despite this don't think they will win the intermediate cup.

Wayside are down to play Lissadel this weekend so through the process of elimination my dear Dr Watson I presume that Wayside won.

wayside won the replay by a single goal, and with them firm favourites to beat lissadel they would be well worth a punt to win it out, they have been there before and done it all
Belgrove 3-3 LiffeyPearse
Drogheda Town 2-2 Carrigaline Utd
Bangor Celtic 0-0 Crumlin Utd
Swilly Rovers 1-1 St Marys
Wayside 1-0 Lissadel
Douglas Hall 2-1 Fanad

Apparently Avondale missed a clutch of sitters and were denied a penalty near the end.
I'm sure the James' Gate view might be different though!!!!!

Lot's of draw's - we play Everton next Sunday in our game.
Fanad and Lissadel gone, Wayside looking strong. Sounds like Avondale confident of getting through in the replay then.
Apparently Avondale missed a clutch of sitters and were denied a penalty near the end.
I'm sure the James' Gate view might be different though!!!!!Hit the post twice as well but I believe Gate had a man sent off in the first half so that may have explained the dominance.
Rockmount 0-0 Everton this morning
Wait for Cliffy for the report.

Morning all,
Tough game yesterday morning for Rockmount, as Razor said it was a 0-0 draw. Everton came in very determined fashion and without ever getting a shot on goal they were better than Mount in the first half. Despite the ref, who was shocking, Mount still had the better chances, but couldn't put them away. In the second half Mount showed up finally and battered the Everton side without taking any of the 5 great chances they created - Beech causing havoc in the Everton back line. Slatts in goal only had to combat the chills as he didn't see the ball for the whole 45. One of those days? Maybe, but still alive to see another day and as always will give it everything in the replay.

Belgrove 3-3 LiffeyPearse
Drogheda Town 2-2 Carrigaline Utd
Bangor Celtic 0-0 Crumlin Utd
Swilly Rovers 1-1 St Marys
Wayside 1-0 Lissadel
Douglas Hall 2-1 Fanad
St James' Gate 0-0 Avondale
The draw has been made and I think it sees winners of Belgrove and Liffey vs Rockmount or Everton (not sure who would be at home) and in the possible tie of the round we might see Avondale or St James' Gate v Douglas Hall.
Not sure of the rest of the ties..
Quarter Final Draw
Crumlin United FC / Bangor Celtic FC v Carrigaline United FC / Drogheda Town FC
Douglas Hall v Avondale Utd / St James Gate
Everton / Rockmount v Liffey Pearse FC / Belgrove FC
St. Mary’s AFC / Swilly Rovers FC v Waysside Celtic
to be played week ending March 2nd
Replays from this weekend
Avondale Utd 3-1 St James Gate
Dale came from a goal down with a scrappy equaliser and 2 late gifts to proceed.
St Marys 4-4 Swilly Rovers AET
St Marys won 4-1 on pens
Unreal stuff here Marys were 3-1 down with 2 minutes of normal time left and then got 2 penalties in 2 minutes to take the game to extra time.
Swilly then despite being a man short, then went 4-3 ahead only for Marys to score with a peach of a free kick. Marys won it on spot kicks.
Carrigaline Utd 0-1 Drogheda Town
Crumlin Utd 0-1 Bangor Celtic
Lliffey Pearse 0-1 Belgrove FC
Revised Quarter Final Draw
Bangor Celtic FC v Drogheda Town FC
Douglas Hall v Avondale Utd
Everton / Rockmount v Belgrove FC
St. Mary’s AFC v Wayside Celtic

Rockmount win 2 0 this morning vs the Everton lads, Ross after 2 mins and Willlie B pen after 90 ish. Tough game, fought well and defended superbly as usual.
Bring on Belgrove.
Fair Play, heard Everton had lots of the ball but rarely threatened and that Willie was MOTM.

Just heard that D.Hall are missing 2 keys players for Sat due to suspensions. They got sent off last week vs Passage and automatically get a one match. Also D.hall were to play Blarney on Wed to get each player free for Sat but Avondale objected. Should be interesting come Sat but I'd back Avondale.

Rockmount 2-0 Belgrove
Tough day at the office for Rockmount, but in the end progress to the semis was attained by two good early goals and a solid defensive display from then on in. Excellent performance against a tough side. Robbie Deasy and Ross O Callaghan were the goal scorers, Deasy got the first. Happy days for the Mount lads.
Rockmount 2-0 BelgroveHeard the interviews on the Big Red Bench last night, heard there was a touch of offside about the first and that it got a tad nasty near the end.
It was when the reporter asked Billy if despite the clubs success that when teams play them are they surprised by the long ball tactics as opposed to playing it on the deck? :D
Might be the last interview that lad gets :D
St Marys 1-1 Wayside Celtic
Wayside got a penalty in the dying minutes, heartbreak for Marys.
Still they live to fight another day.

Good weekend for the Cork sides. Pity about Marys, would've been a scalp. Was anyone at the game? I was impressed with Wayside when I saw them earlier this season so would be interesting to see how they faired. You have to fancy Wayside to win the replay though. Do Marys still have the bulk of the team that played in the premier division a few years ago? Mylod, Tomas etc?
What about the Avondale game? Who were the two suspended Hall players Razor? Who deserved it on the day?
Still a great chance of an all Cork final.
P.S. I am still amazed by the fact that Drogheda Town are still in the competition. They are a poor side and will probably get relegated from the LSL first division.

I do believe Marys still have a few players but a lot of youngsters too, Deccie Daly was out training with them last week but as their manager Malcolm Stokes said on the radio they are still a First Division side.
Didn't make any games over the weekend but my sources tell me that Hall were lucky.
Bangor Celtic 0-0 Drogheda Town was the final result from the weekend.

Alan Weldon was coming out and didn't go near the ball, that's not offside anymore - Deasy broke onto ball well onside. Rules changed a few years ago, they may not have reached Dale yet as Caulfield has his own set of rules...:D
The Dubs got frustrated with only being able to create one shot on goal and became increasingly dirty, one was sent off another should have gone for a straight red also.
Rockmount can play whatever game is necessary to beat the opposition no matter how limited they are. If teams want to slug it out they can try it or if they want to come and play ball they can. I find we never shirk either way of playing and if needs must we will adjust to any type of tactics. If sore losers or bad journos want to dress it up that we weren't as fluent as Arsenal or Barca then thats up to them. The day I see a team come to Rockmount Park to play ball is the day I see us tear a team apart for fun.
See you Sunday eh?

It wasn't meant as an attack Cliffy, just sayin what I heard. :D
In fairness Billy reacted well to the question, saying that with a player of Ross height it'd be a shame not to use it.
I haven't seen Rockmount recently so I can't say myself but from reports I hear that Willie has been the outstanding player for Mount, pity he didn't do the business at City.
Lovely lad too.
Any truth in the rumours that some of the Behind the Goal Brigade (Mount OAPs) were after a fee for Alan O'Connor?
Don't get to many games anymore but have good contacts ;)

Naw didn't take it as an attack, just pointing out that we won't be a pushover if teams want it that way. If ever a team come to play ball that will suit Mount fine. Doesn't happen as they are so afraid of getting spanked so Mount have to utilise whatever tactics it takes to break down 11 men and a ref behind the ball....;)
Billy always is composed and relaxed, not surprised he batted it away for a four.
We should be entitled to a fee surely for O Connor? Giving him a platform to be spotted, is it true City would give him away for nothing a la Doyle and Long if he goes on to become a hot property?

Aw jaysus, your not still on about that one are ya? Ha ha, handball is handball is handball in any man's language. In the box it's a spotter. Nothing the ref can do about it, yet again another occasion where our keeper was in danger of getting frostbite on his fingers from lack of action, but of course it was the ref's fault...
If he or any other ref wants to socialise with such luminaries as the Mount club then it's better to do it with the upper echelons rather than slum it with other half arsed clubs....:D
With regard to earlier, Willie Byrne is indeed playing very well as usual - in a back 5 that are playing well, behind a midfield who are playing very well, with an attack that are playing very well.
Aw jaysus, your not still on about that one are ya?Just pointing out that its not always 11 men and a ref that the mighty Mount have to overcome, sometimes its made a tad easier ;)

By all accounts Dale have gone out of the cup to Douglas Hall today on spotters. Fair play to both teams on what sounds like an epic battle. No one left in the draw would fancy either of these and Hall must now be odds on favourites to win it as they have beaten the holders and are league leaders as Razor highlighted above.
Bit of karma involved in the pen miss that lost it for Dale, but hey ho there you go...:D

Bangor were beating Drogheda Town 1-0 when the ref abandoned the game. Drogheda ran out of players having had 3 sent off and then another walked off injured. Reckon Bangor will be awarded the game, as both a Drogheda player and their physio “laid hands” on the official in question.

Wasn't in attendance so only going by what I heard, very even game, 1-1 after Full time, David Welch missed a penalty for Dale with 10 minutes of normal time left.
Douglas Hall won 4-2 on penalties, Damo and Danny Kelly missed for Dale.
Not quite the one that lost it Cliffy but almost ;)
O'Connell did get a strong hand on one Hall penalty but then did nothing as the ball tricked over the line, Caulfields own fault for getting rid of a top keeper.
