Lovely - RTE Radio have wheeled Staunton's biggest kiss-arse Cathal Dervan out.

Let's listen to the excuses...

Should have been well beaten. Cyprus could have scored 4. Team is in a shambolic state. Badly organised.

He has to go.

Dunphy speaking some sense. He said you cant fault the players for effort, but the FAI need to do the right thing and spend the money on a world class manager. Totally dis-jointed performance. Disgraceful!!!

Even Brady is having a go at the FAI. I wouldn't be surprised if there's no interview from Stan.

usual ****e - it's not Staunton's fault, the public would be calling for the head of his replacement after a few weeks regardless of results, players out injured, not enough young players coming through.

Utter verbal garbage - as usual

90% knew this was coming. It was'nt a performance or result out of the blue. The writing has been on the wall since the home Holland game. Stan is and now hopefully was out of his depth. I don't blame him for taking the job and still admire him as a player. But he has to go now and Delaeny has to have his wings clipped at least.

Stan doesn't look like he has any intention of going. Can't blame him as most people would hang on hoping for the pay off.

I would hope though that he'll realise that he isn't up to the job and do the decent thing and resign.

I think him and the FAI though will play the game next month and hope that the fuss will die down after that for a few months. Just try and ride out the storm.

Robbie Keane is a fcuking joke, jsut doesn't perform for Ireland. Staunton and the FAI will part company at the end of this campaign.

thought the interview was a bit sad to be honest....think he knows game is up and could posibly resign soon. he needed a convincing win here tonite and he didnt get it. seemed to think the players had let him down.
as regards the panel think dunphy was right about FAI spin. he probably didnt go into it as much as I would have liked.
question is....how would delaney and them know what a world class football manager is? what does delaney know about football?

I think Bill-O was largely correct on FAI structures although magnificent might be overstating a bit. Obviously Staunton appointment a predictable disaster.

The sad thing is that we'll probably get some third rate english or scottish manager in to replace Stan. In 1986, we were a **** poor country but at least we appointed a good manager and had football greats interviewed.

The sad thing is people like Finnan and Given won't be around much longer. I really wouldn't blame the likes of these top class pros to say f*ck this ****. My dad is nearly 80 and has supported Ireland home and away for decades. For the first time ever, he wasn't even animated. He might as well have been watching some boring, meaningless tv programme.

The sad thing is the damage this eedjit is doing to young lads with lots of potential like Keogh and O'Brien. Future, what ****ing future?

Please go...if you call yourself an Irish football man and take that little **** Delaney with you.

The saddest thing is that I'm the biggest ****ing eedjit because I'll still go to the games home and away.

If We don't wallop Wales in Cardiff we will finish fourth as Cyprus have a game in hand and will pick up at least two points in their remaining games.

I'm in despair after watching that. A truly terrible night for Irish football and that's all I think I can contribute to this thread tonight. :(

Felt sorry for Cyprus. They deserved a win and Ireland needed a defeat. The sooner this jokeshop regime ends, the better.
On another note, the attendance showed up 'the best fans in the world' cliche as pure fantasy. It was like watching a GAA game at Croker as there were so many empty seats at the start (were there slow barman operating in the boozers around Croker?) and thousands poured out before the end (Jayze, Mick, we could get an extra pint in if we left now!).
Proper fans stay till the final whistle. Part-timers leave early.
