View Full Version : Worst moment
Okay the thread is going to find out peoples most memorable moments what about your worst moments as a supporter of your beloved football club those games that to this very day still stick out like a sore thumb!! For me it will be the day we lost 5-1 to Carmarthen town in the uefa cup 2005. The most embarrasing moment as a town fan by a mile.:o

More highs than real lows for bohs fans in recent years to be honest but the ones that spring to mind are the defeat out in UCD that condemned us to a relegation playoff with Cobh ,which we won comprehensively, and the Cup final defeat to Dundalk when we were nailed on to win easily and even went ahead!!

A few of my worst moments are in the most memorable moments thread :(
****ing loads of 'em;
Zimbru
the crowd in the home game v Celtic (more anger than depression)
every cup final (longford being the worst as we just didn't turn up on the day)
As I've posted before though I take every goal we concede personally so the ones above are when I've been on the edge of depression.

A toss-up between a 1-0 Cup defeat to Skerries a few seasons ago (re-lived it last week when I met a guy who was at the game) and the 7-1 home defeat to Dundalk in the Cup 2 seasons later.
Sandwiched between these 2 Cup defeats was a 2-0 Cup defeat away to Rockmount which was slightly easier to take, as they were half-decent and took eventual finalists Waterford to a replay in the next round.
I don't even have a memorable moment!

I suppose the two Drogs cup finals should be up there but Im not a big fan of the domestic cups so Id have to say losing 2-0 away to Slavia in a game we could have very easily snatched a draw in, so many missed chances that night.
The two seasons before this one I'd rather forget about to be honest!
Probably the single worst moment was Bray's last minute equaliser in the second cup final replay of 1999 after we had blown a multitude of chances to make the game safe.

Losing 3 v 0 to Sloven Bratislava fighting our way back into the game 1 v 3 HT then 2 v 3 then 3 v 3. Such Highs. Then in the last minute losing the match from a corner 3 v 4. See I'm living it all over again. (I still wont mention Zimbru/Cup finals).

getting to bray in 2000 near half time only to find we were already 4 nil downGetting to Bray last season to find it had been called off:p. Summer football:rolleyes:
03 season when we finished runners up to Dublin City in the 1st division. Last game of the season in white hall, Bray V Dublin City winner takes all game. We brought about 2500 fans with us. Battered them all game and should have won with ease only for a few ddgy reffing decisions. Finished 1 all in the end. Gut renching and heart breaking. It took me weeks to come to terms with another season in the 1st division !

Seeing us getting chinned 4-1 by Cork at home earlier this season, has to be one of the lowest points. (thanks Mr Fenlon!!!!).
Kevin McHugh scoring the late, late equaliser in the play-off at the Brandywell is up there too. Although to be fair, it was quickly followed by one of the greatest moments.

Real Madrid getting an undeserved equaliser from a stupid penalty 15 minutes from time at Lansdowne Road. For 20 minutes we dreamt the impossible dream of beating Real Madrid. They subsequently got a late winner.
Getting relegated - twice - worst was losing in Monaghan on the last day in 1994.
A cup repaly defeat at first division Drogheda in 1989. Murdered them 0-0 at Rathbane, scored in the first minute at United Park, could have had 6 and conceded 3 in the 2nd half. We had a decent team and I thought we were going to win the cup.
Home cup defeat v non league Transport in 1974 and Gerard O'Brien in my class announcing he was supporting Cork Celtic from now on.
Being rode out the gate by a linesman at Lourdes Stadium in a cup match in 1978.
Losing 6-0 in Waterford in 1988 - looked like we were down but survived in the end.
Al Finucane equalising with 4 minutes to go in the Markets Field for Waterford in our league winning season.
Losing to Cork Hibs in the 73 Cup semi final (my first away game).
2 up at half time v bohs and losing 3-2 - we would have sent them down.
Losing a cup replay in 1986 to Cork City while studying in UCC.
Losing at home to Drogheda in the cup in 1983, well beaten on the day but still a shocker.
Too many trips to oriel Park where we didn't perform. 88 and 93 both in the cup in particular
Being the only visiting fan at a 7-0 defeat in the Brandywell in 1990.
A 7-1 home defeat v Cork City at christmas time- think it was 1990.
Losing a 2-0 lead in the last 30 minutes in a cup semi final v Galway. Lost the replay and a place in Europe.
Drawing 0-0 at home to Harps in 1995 thus just missing out on a playoff. Consoling ourrselves with maybe we're better off to go up next year. Still haven't been back in the top division since.
Setanta final last year-to dominate and just not out it away was heartbreaking
Setanta semi this year- carbon copy of last years final
Losing 4-1 to Sligo in the showgrounds this season-the razors they gave out were very close to being used...
Hammarby away game this season. An appalling and depressing experience(the match not the trip).
When supporting Harps there are quite a few,
Cup final in 99
Getting relegated in 2000, after thinking we were safe (when some c*nt spread the word that UCD were losing).
The two seasons before this one
But the one that always sticks in my head is:
Losing in penalties to Longford at Finn Park in the Promotion/Relegation playoff in 2001(Possibly 2002 can't quite remember). Despair to joy and back to despair again all in the matter of a few hours.

My worst moments would be as follows:
Losing 1-4 to Douglas Hall in the Cup at home, ouch.:(
Losing 1-6 at home to Longford around 99 or 2000.
Seeing 3,000 or so queing outside our ground for tickets to a friendly with Roy Keane and Man U.

Tom McNulty 1991. Utter devestation around TC
The 1-0 defeat to Pats in 1999, absolutely robbed at Richmond. I still have no idea how he sent Kelvin Flanagan off

The two 6-0s and the relegation were bad but the worst for me was Liam Coyle's free kick way into injury time in the cup quarter final a few years ago in Belfield to force a replay.

Promotion Play Off Final Second Leg 2003
Throwing away a first leg 2 -0 win only to let in THREE in at the second leg in Drog town. Not only that, but we had two goals disallowed in the second leg by ref Alan Kelly (okay, one was marginal but the other was blatant). I had a bottle of Champers in my bag:o
Had Drogs been relegated that day, would they have gone full time professional a few months later?
FAI Cup Semi Defeat to "them who shall not be named" at Tolka a couple of years ago

Mr Eddie Foley, I believe, was in a spot of bother that day.
Also, conceding a goal 3/4 minutes into injury time away to UCD in the playoff, to lose 2-1, in 99/2000(?). Lost the home leg 3-1, and would probably not have gone through anyway, but it was a sickener, after the game it had been.

Cobh should have sold those tickets inside the ground only and made those batsards pay into a First Division Fixture..Cobh board please note this is how you do it next time. Who cares about ripping off barstoolers? They don't contribute diddly squat to the game here so fcuk them !
I started following the team actively towards the end of the second season so I missed some of the hidings dished out in 1979/80
My own worst moments were in 1996/97 season. I went to Finn Park and booked accomodation and saw UCD lose 5-1. The owner of the B and B was a huge Finn Harps fan, and was at the game , who spent the rest of the evening trying to cheer me up.
The next one was taking a Tuesday off work to go to see the team play Derry in the Brandywell the same season. We were tonked 5-0 the players just didn't turn up. What made this even more depressing was three months earlier we had been in second place in the League. I haven't been back to either venue since.
And the next one was losing 6-0 to Bohs at Dalymount ( I was on holidays for the Shelbourne tonking) that bitter pill was softened by not having to travel 150 miles to get home from the game. And Bohs were to be fair magnificent that night!

my worst memories as a town fan:
1.being stuck in dublin airport in 2001 when our flight was cancelled due to a flight that never turned up for us!
2. the fiasco in wales.
3. being hockeyed five nil by harps in ballybofey
4. being hcokeyed five nil by bohs in dalymount this season.
5. conceding i think thirteen goals to shamrock rovers twice in the space of a week in 2001/02 season( one of them was a league cup match)
6. being caught up in the shamrock rovers riot with the guards in 2005( i think)
7. losing the league cup final to pats to dave freeman goal barry ferguson missed a last min peno the final whistle blew!

It was much worse than that. They had organised to sell them inside but changed their mind so people had to choose between going to the game or buying the Man Utd tickets.
With decisions like that I'm waiting for Roddy Collins to get the Cobh job.

last season playing shels we hadnt won in something like eleven games and we were 2 nil up at half time . The last touch of the ball went to glen crowes head and we lost it 3 2 it just felt like we were never going to win.
drogheda semi final of the cup 2005 lost 2 1 just the whole trip left me depressed
The worst moment as a Waterford United fan was the 2004 FAI Cup final and conceding 2 goals in the last 5 minutes to lose 2-1 to Longford. We were 5 minutes away from winning our first FAI Cup since 1980 and qualifying for Europe for the first time since the mid 80s.Ex Blue Alan Kirby got the equaliser to make it worse and then Keegan got the winner. From joy to despair in a matter of minutes and we've gone downhill ever since that game.

Most disappointing moments as a UCD fan came in the space of one week in 2005. Losing the League Cup final with a Pat McWalter own goal and crashing out of the cup in Bray the next week after fighting back from 3-0 down to 3-2 and being denied a blatant penalty in the dying minutes. An exciting season turned totally flat in a couple of games and a meaningless empty season left to play out.

Run in at end of 85/86 season, and particularly losing 3-1 at home to Shamrock Rovers that March. We had 6 games left, challenging Rovers for the title. It was in the 'old' Terryland, temporary seating installed and everything but we just didn't turn up, comfortably beaten 3-1. Then lost to both Bohs and Dundalk, finished with 3 wins but ended up second, 2 points behind Rovers. Haven't been within an asses roar of winning it since.
Also losing to Rovers in 85 Cup final, to Dundalk in our first final the 81 League Cup final, and relegation in 2002.
Losing to Finn Harps in Station Road in 2004 on the second last day of the season.Missed out on promotion thanks to that.
One of my best memories. Thanks for reminding me ;):D
