I had an idea for a compilation of airplay hits. That is songs played to death on the radio which didn't chart from the 1960's,1970's 1980's 1990's and 2000's.Anybody want to suggest the ones for the current decade is welcome to.
Here's some examples 1960's The Days Of Pearly Spencer

Didnt chart due to poor sales or werent released as singles?

I've never understood why 80's shows and "drive time hits" insist on playing a band most quite likely won't remember called C0ck Robin* who's only hit 'The Promise You Made' had an unillustrious three week stint in the top forty peaking at 23 in August 1986.

At the very same time Furnitures 'Brilliant Mind' was five places higher at 18 and J&MCs 'Some Candy Talking' was five places higher again at 13. I have NEVER heard the Furniture song on any radio show and the Mary Chain track only on the obvious indie shows.

It's a mystery wrapped in a conundrum and shrouded in an unfathomable.

EDIT: :-D the filter doesn't allow you to use the word C O C K. **** a doodle doo!!!

If I were to put together a compilation album right now, it'd be all Funkadelic.

Heggy, there's a similar kind of thread here (http://foot.ie/showthread.php?t=43410) and here (http://foot.ie/showthread.php?t=33238)

Mostly didn't chart due to poor sales. In some cases cause people bought the albums the songs were on instead. But then people are strange. Everyone says Scott 4 by Scott Walker released in 1969 was his best 60's solo album. And I would agree. It's the only one of his first four that didn't CHART!

Lionel Richie

At various different times in the 1970's and 1980's certain singles weren't released promptly in Ireland. The result the songs were charting in Britain sometimes top 20 and they could not be got for love nor money here.
This was due to sometimes being on independent labels who had not organised a distribution deal for the Republic Of Ireland.
That's why back in the 1970's I joined Radio Luxemebourg's Club 208 so I could order stuff from England. I only called on their services twice and one of them was for Jonathan Richman's '' Roadrunner '' which reached no. 11 in Britain in 1977 and didn't get a release over here.
