:eek::eek::eek:

Republic of Ireland v Germany
(1945 BST)

If the Republic had held on in Slovakia for a victory on 8 September and then nicked a draw in the Czech Republic a few days later their current situation would be very different.

That, though, is all 'ifs' and 'buts' and the reality is that Steve Staunton's team will not qualify for Euro 2008.

I think his team can go so far with the players he has but not quite far enough to qualify.

One of the key things for the Republic will be the group draw for their 2010 campaign.

They will not be one of the top seeds and will need a bit of luck to place them in a group that gives them a realistic chance to qualify.

On the positive side, it does look as though a few players are starting to come through and they remain a difficult side to beat at home.

I saw Germany play England at Wembley and I do not think they are anything special.

Match preview
Prediction: 1-0

surely the kiss of death? Football365 have been following his predictions, and if they applied in real life, Man City would be in the relegation zone!

Mark Lawrenson was talking to Paul Fletcher.

Obvious typo in the above sentence. They left out a word between "talking" and "to".

He must have changed it, or else it was a site error. He definitely had it down as 1-0 last night.

1-0 is 6-1 in the bookies, for ireland to win its 100-30, decent odds...i reckon we will win they are misisng 8 players, have the group sewn up, be a great atmosphere, and there is no pressure on the lads...this no pressure situation will mean robbie will defo score..ireland 1-o and keane to score is 33-1, gona have a fiver on it

lads where are the goals going to come from. carsley in midfield? a forward pass is needed for goals, that is not in his range-kev kilbane will be defensive minded, stephen ireland has rabbits upstairs working the controls, andy reid only 50-50, mcgeadys form is terrible, miller all but out.

cant even see us getting 1 against them.

Very insightful.

Yeah it was predicted 1-0 yesterday.

To be honest I think you will struggle to beat them, but a draw is a possibility imo.

Well to be honest, we were at home, and as far as i know only 2 teams have beaten us at home in something like 7 years. I couldnt really see us losing the match, despite the manager, and particularly with the Germans only needing a draw
