I am now Sports Editor for the independent DIT student newspaper and I'm thinking about putting in a piece on the el for the students. Something along the lines of fixture lists, etc.
Are there any clubs that do more then student prices to entice students to games? I would be willing to advertise any such promotions.
All clubs should respond, there's a lot of people from the country in DIT and they tend to go home for the weekends.

nothing in the showgrounds anyway, any students not from sligo would be gone back home for the weekend when we play anyway
We dont do student prices but the CITy supporters club do get reduced price tickets.

We have a student rate (just ask Sligoman :p) and our drink is cheaper than the pubs in town. Will try and see if can talk the chairman into giving you a voucher type thingy for a Mondog or something too.

is it for the whole of DIT or just a particular building???
This time of year there seems to be plenty of rescheduled games and the likes of bray at home last night and UCD next Monday could be taken advantage of. I know the debate about UCD and when they play their games has been done but would they get a bigger crowd if they played their games say monday nights during the college year??

would [UCD] get a bigger crowd if they played their games say monday nights during the college year??Thursdays didn't help. I don't see why Mondays would be any different, apart from being an even poxier day for a game. Changing the day of games isn't likely to help attendances any more than changing from 12 teams to 10 in the premier division and back again. Much more fundamental work is necessary first.

Freqeunt Advertising of home matches in NUIG by GUFC in co-ordination with GUST.
This year we hope to get even more students into UTD with a few ideas already in the pipeline....such as a society or Club.

The media department is based in Aungier Street and we are the ones producing it but it will be available in all the other campuses, AFAIK.

Weekday nights won't help at all. Most (night)clubs have student nights out and stuff and the option of going out, getting smashed and taking someone home with you is a lot more appetising than going to a football match and standing around in the freezing cold.

Superfrank, I'm 90% certain UCD have a free beer/food kind of promotion going on this Monday.

No, Mooney's cancelled any direct involvement for the moment. He was originally going to help us with the Waterford game I think. Students will be given free entry to the Bray game this Friday.
The plan for Monday is to put up a marquee outside the ground and have free beer and/or food. How much of that will be allowed or will transpire remains to be seen. It depends on the college bureaucrats. I might be able to give more info tomorrow. Entry will also be free for Monday I imagine.

If you show up with a valid (or invalid depending on the person) university student card you'll get into the match for free, I reckon. I don't think it's restricted to first years.

Just reading the poster for the Bray game (I brought some home to stick up before work tomorrow) and it says: Free admission upon production of your student card!!!! So it's not UCD or first year exclusive.

At City they don't do student prices. But I'm running the CITy Supporters Society and we're selling tickets for the Rovers game for €10 and CIT pay the other €5.

Yep, let your fellow free loading students know! There definitely some sort of free beer promotion on Monday for the Cork game involving both the student bars.

I got in for free after waving my DIT student card but in fairness I'm not too sure how much attention the guy at the turnstiles paid to it. Stevo Da Gull, who's a UCD student, also got in for free no bother.
UCD fans: If you could let me know how the student promotions went tonight, I'd really appreciate it.

Will do. I attempted to poster for it but they're just getting ripped down by the large societies. I think Red Bull were down on the campus to promote the game from 12-2. They're going to be at the game promoting themselves and will have a PS3 with FIFA. I think the Vice-President for students also sent an e-mail to all students about the promotion but that's only to the ucd e-mail accounts and those circulars aren't really read.

The official attendance was around 680. The promotion was a reasonable success. I'd say half that would have been there otherwise. You could see a lot of students with the official college scarf. It's a decent platform to build from.

Would not let me in with my DIT card. Had to fork over £7. At least UCD offer students a concession compared to at home.
Certinly a boost in student numbers anyway. Even a few cheered when college scored. Shocking stuff

I'll mention that in the piece. I have the attendances for the Bray and Cork matches and I'll check your averages, etc. I'll try and get it all in the article. I'll post it up here when I've completed it.

We have U-21 players manning the gate and there seemed to be some inconsistencies and confusion.:o My apologies. I'll try and make sure what the offer is the next time.
