Champions’ late strike shatters Rovers

Bohemians 1-1 Shamrock Rovers
A 92nd minute goal from captain Kevin Hunt salvaged a point for Bohemians against a Shamrock Rovers team that thought they had earned a famous victory.

In a game of poor quality that was tense due to the derby nature of the tie, Shamrock Rovers thought they had claimed all three points as they led going into injury time. With just 16-minutes of play left, the visitors had scored to take the lead. Skipper Jason Colwell broke through after Damien Lynch slipped, and Colwell made no mistake to set up Stephen Grant who looped the ball over Boh’s ‘keeper Shay Kelly.

Rovers were delirious and their joy knew no bounds as the game seemed to be over, but the Champions showed their metal to steal a point at the death.

Derek Coughlan got into the box and his headed effort was parried by Barry Ryan, but up popped Hunt to fire the rebound to the net.

Bohemians – Kelly, Lynch, Coughlan, Hawkins, Webb, Ryan, Caffrey (Hawkin 62), Hunt, Rutherford (Pereplotkin), Keegan (Doyle 67), Crowe.

Shamrock Rovers – Ryan, Gough, Palmer, Byrne, Keddy, Robinson, Colwell (Tracey 90), Reynolds, S Grant, Molloy, T Grant (Kelly 40).
