View Full Version : Favourite Singers
Nothing to do with the lyrics or how well they can play an instrument, just who's voice stirs you the most. For me it's mostly a female list (possibly saying they stir me was the wrong choice of words) but mine in no particular order is
Billie Holiday
Aretha Franklin
Hope Sandoval

Was thinking of me list while reading the thread only to see noby has most of 'em down already! Sarah Cracknell, great shout!
Some more unmentioned already - the chaps:
Jimmy Cliff
Horace Andy
Jonsi Birgisson (Sigur Ros)
Mark Everett (Eels)
Greg Gilbert (The Delays)
Andy Irvine
Lot of high-pitched singers there, what's that all about?
The lasses:
Kristin Hersh (Throwing Muses)
Natascha Atlas
Sugarcubes-era Bjork
All of the All Saints
Alison Goldfrapp
Liz Fraser
Al Green
Jimmy Cliff
Horace Andy
Kristin Hersh

You see, that's why I said it was hard. And it changes day by day. I could easily do a top ten female Motown/Northern Soul singers, and even that could change tomorrow.

Who's 'Liam'? Or is Liam Lennon one person?
I'm guessing he means Liam Clancy, thereafter there's a slim chance he could mean O'Maonlaoi from Hothouse Flowers. Thereafter again -I don't know a single other 'Liam' who can sing even a little bit ...though perhaps it's a typo ...might've meant Leanne ...

Massive Attack changed their singer more often than I changed my underwear; about once every two years. Which one specifically, or is it all of them? I'm guessing it's Shara Nelson, and she deserves a mention for her work on Blue Lines alone.
