Tomorrow night (Monday) 7:30pm on SKY Sports 1, Cliftonville vs. Linfield at Solitude will be broadcasted live. It's the first match of the Carnegie Premier League for the teams, and the first ever NI league match to be broadcasted live. As you are aware both teams will be representing the League in next years Setanta Cup.

The Eircom league's only got RTE2, TV3, TG4 and Setanta on-board. Plus BBC for occassional games like City v PSG.
You won't find a single IL fan who thinks their TV coverage is better than ours. Because it isn't.
Surprised that Sky went with the IL though. Is it linked to internationals once the BBC rights run out ?
The Sky deal is linked to the Northern Ireland coverage and they'll be showing five live games this season. Not a lot, but Sky hype these things very well and its good promotion for the Irish League. Fair play to the IFA for using the relative success of their senior side to benefit the local game. As for the BBC coverage the IL gets- it's not great, the goals are usually shown while the fans are on their way home from the games, and it can be a bit half-assed. They only show the league cup final and IFA cup final live as far as I know.

Do they still show one half from Windsor Park before bundling the cameraman in to the back of a van and scooting across Belfast to show the second half from Solitude?? :)

Setanta Ireland is available in England. I even caught St.Pat's vs U.C.D in a bar in Bulgaria on Setanta. The deal with sky is for 5 league. It's the same as when sky signed a deal to show Rep. of Ireland games. They showed to the FAI Cup Semis & final. In all with Setanta we've got a better deal.

I'm fairly sure we've never had an EL team or game shown on Sky.
Was that Cup/Internationals deal not with a terrestrial channel (RTE or TV3) ?
Haven't seen any Sky promotion for the IL match, so will be interesting to see how they cover it. Looking forward to some channel-hopping as well myself tonight.

Bohs v Dundalk in the 2002 final. Sky showed extended highlights. Also showed highlights of of the Bohs v Derry & Dundalk v Rovers semi finals on Sky too. Plus St. Pat's & Derry were on Sky too. Anyone remember the Carlsberg Cup in Lansdowne Road?

They showed goals from the Coleraine-Distillery game, Glentoran-Armagh and some other game on Saturday. Actually it might've just been the two. Both were highlights, not just the goals. And they covered both halves, with a post match interview. A lot like el weekly and whereas TV3 had all weekend to edit the footage, BBC have about ten or fifteen minutes.
They also have a local sports show on some weekday which tends to have IL and the cups coverage.
UTV also show goals from some matches occasionally.

You're right on the Carlsberg Cup. i Even have the video evidence, so should've remembered thatone....:D Did they screen Pats the following year (98) ?
The rest were just highlights - regardless of how extended. I was referring to live games. I'm fairly certain there have been no domsetic games live on Sky from the EL....!?
