Other mentions must go to Pete Mahon and Alan Matthews. I would not class them as good as Scully but both have done a great job. That's two cup semi's UCD are in and are doing well in the league.
We are doing poor in the league this season.

. Matthews has taken a shambles of a club and might just keep them up.

Seeing as you know nothing about Longford Town FC or how its run you should your opinions to yourself. I would say it is run particularly well all things considered with many of those invoved doing everything voluntarily.

Which is why you were never docked points?

Which is why you were never docked points?and the manager almost walked out?

The best managers are the ones who get the most of the players they have and the resources they have.

I'd vote for Scully, Mahon second.

I don't see why Matthews is getting so much credit. He's turned them around halfway through this season but what about the months before that? And the year before that they didn't do much. Carmarthen anyone? They did well in the cup competitions for a while but I think to be a good manager consistency in the league is more important and apart from their recent run, they've not been up to much for the past few years.

Being docked for not going by licence rules to me indicates a shamble of a club, if it was my club I would not be best pleased if the people are volunatry or not. Maybe breaching rules is the new way to go, in Longford anyway

You havent a notion what the situation was. Im not going to divulge it here its noones business. I could pm you it but whats the point. Anyway we are well run! Look at Flancare Park and tell me we are not well run. There is not one club in this league maybe the obvious exception of Cork or Bohs that dont or havent had cash flow problems!:ball:

Its because we had half a team out injured. At one stage I counted 8 of our starting 11 who were out of position. Our first team in my opinion is far better then any of the teams around us. We are short on the bench mind you.

This would be Cork, who had a Revenue winding up petition last season?

Hendo wouldnt swap him for any other EL manager.

I honestly don't have a clue but could it not be the case that not being up to date with Revenue is an inaccurate indicator of cash-flow?

It's either that or you were deliberately ignoring a Revenue debt. One or the other!

1. Pat Scully - Unbelievable job with a part-time team who are more or less the same squad as last season. I commented to a friend recently on the difference in progress between ourselves and Rovers. Would love to see them go the whole way and win the title. A real riches to rags to riches story. Just what the league needs imo. Would also show that pouring money into a club doesn't necessirily mean success.

2. Alan Mathews - again almost a great story, it would be great for them to stay up (although not at our expense ;)).

3. Paul Cook - he has done an excellent job at Sligo to be fair this season. He came in late, had a very small squad and has done wonders and they are playing good quality football to boot. Hats off.

Other notable mentions:
Stephen Henderson (excellent form and look likely to come straight up)
Dermot Keely (for preventing Shels from movinmg into total oblivion, credit also for taking a job that very few others would bother with)
Pete Mahon (steady job on limited budget at a club that could hardly be regarded as glamorous).

Are you sure you wouldn't have Sean Connor instead? I'd be willing to drive him down to Cobh for you.

Interesting dilemma.

Would you take Roddy back instead of Connor? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roddy_Collins
He did bring success to Bohs.

You can't argue with Roddy Collins' record at Bohs but I'm one of these people who think you should never go back. I'm not sure if it was a down to good management or if all the pieces fell into places & Roddy was in the right place at the right time. But Collins wanted to run the club from top to bottom. But nobody is bigger than the club. Difficult one to call really.I wasn't happy when Connor got the job. We needed a big name manager like Fenlon, Dolan or Kerr. But saying that we could have two pieces of silverware at the end of the season so thats not bad. Or we mind just finish middle table with nothing! By the way, Scully & Cook are the two best managers in the league at this moment in time.

Scully is best - his record over the past two seasons is astounding.

At this moment in time it has to be Pay Scully.
18 months ago he took over, assembled a team of players, few if any of us heard of and brought them to the first division title. At the start of the season most Hoops would have been happy with Mid Table and a run in a cup.
Now we are challenging for the League and qualification for Setanta/ Europe . Its unreal.
There is a high turnover of players, but few if any of those that have left have gone on to better things.
I dont think too many other managers could have achieved what Scully has.
I think John Robertson and Paul Cook are doing good jobs too.

Pat Scully ,What a great 2 seasons he is having. To get promoted in his first season and looks like Rovers will finish in the top 3 this season , with a part time team. Great credit to the man...
