View Full Version : Dave Barry Legend

One Sunday afternoon several years ago I heard a rumour in the shed. I often wondered was it another part of the Dave Barry legend or just a another Cork City myth. Hopefully the members of this forum can confirm the rumour.
The story went that on the morning of the famous Bayern Munich match, Dave Barry was drafted in to do some last minute plumbing repairs on the toilets in Musgrave Park.
Is this official?
He was plumbing on the morning of the match, but he was installing a back-boiler for someone, not fixing the jacks in Musgrave Park. I remember him telling the story on the t.v. one night. It might have been in the John Creedon programme about City a few years back.

I can't believe that a Sheddie would exaggerate a story like that. Are you sure Ali G that it was a back boiler.
I was always thaught that fixing the bog was part of Dave Barry's plan to intimidate our old friend Steffan Effanburg. Could this be true?
This is a vital piece of Cork City history, we must get to the bottom of this.
this reminds me of the "ask Davie" problem column in the old NMPP fanzine. dave would give advice about how to fix boilers and toilets, usually recommending going to gunther in hickeys for the parts.

Whether it was a back boiler or a bog in Musgrave park he was fixing it makes no difference to the true legacy of Dave Barry - that he was the greatest City player of all time (besides the irrepressable Johnny Glynn of course)
Do the members agree?

What actually happened was that Herr Effenberg blew a gasket that evening but Dave couldn't fix it as he was playing a silly UEFA Cup match at the time. :D

I heard that all his hair fell out and blocked the shower. Anyone hear the story about Dave Barry and the gerbil?
