Over the last couple of weeks since the season started I've noticed the saturday matches are fairly well attended in comparison to the Sunday morning kick offs. The players seem a bit happier with playing Saturday at least according to the few players I have spoken with. Just wondering does anyone think that a move to saturday league would benefit junior soccer????

Defo saturday evening would be preferable for our players as most are not capable of tying their laces on Sunday morning let alone spend an hour and a half chasing a ball around the field.

Playing in UCFL in Dublin and we play on Saturdays. Seems to suit most people, no problems so far with numbers turning out for games anyway.
It's very early in the season though and it's my first season so hard to say in the long run.

I'm thinking in terms of improving the standard and accommodating lads who work hard all week, love playing football but would like a social life also (guess that applies to all players maybe even refs). There is absolutely no way on this earth that any player can play to his potential after having a feed of beer the night before.

I played my first game in the Wicklow league just there yesterday. We got slaughtered and our boss pointed out it was our own fault cause most of us were walking around like zombies from the night before, myself included. Saturdays are the way to go, not so many people go out on Fridays.
Also, midweek matches have been cancelled in Wicklow. This happened anywhere else?

We've had a few Monday night matches at home they're 6.30 PM kick off and I've noticed a lot of the other Monday night games being called off.
It's pretty much impossible to make the kick off if you have to work until 5 and then travel any distance. For example Greystones are in our division, it would be mayhem trying to get from Terenure to Greystones for a 6.30 Monday night game.
I'd imagine this will be the last week with mid-week games anyway with the evenings being dark about 8.30 now.

At least lads would be able to get up for work on a monday morning without feeling sore or hungover instead they would have Sunday to lick their wounds so to speak..

Saturday evening suits most people but when the days get shorter and it gets darker earlier are you talking of playing saturday morning?
This could cause some problems as a lot of people still work saturdays. Maybe a 2 or 3 o clock kick off would work.

People are working sundays too... It would be nice to have both the soccer and a social life. I think its killed soccer in my town people might disagree but the lads aren't there anymore most of them choose the beer over a match..

Totally agree.. Was wondering was this arguement ever going to come up. I know most lads I know would much rather play Saturdays. Saturday is the main night for going out nowadays. I know the school boys generally play Saturdays and the referee's will be busy with them but I think it would be logical to have school boys on the sunday and junior teams on Saturday.

5pm kick off on Saturday's would suit all I think. (While the light is available)
Game finishes at 6.45, and your in the pub for 7.30 latest, recover then on Sunday's, and back to work on Monday morning.
Happy days.

Ya it's not all about drinking it's about trying to get people down to watch and players back into the game!! Games would need to start at around two clock to have any hope of it working. Big question is whats the situation with the referees???

Most lads I know would prefer sunday cos they are working saturday. But saturday football does present a lot more advantages for the players then sunday.
Maybe clubs should put a proposal forward to their local commity.
what about your clubs commity, would they prefer sunday or saturday. Can anyone start a poll for this. I dunno how!!!!! :o:o

limited number of refs...alot of refs do schoolboy matches already on a saturday. Some clubs could look to install floodlights, then they could play friday or Saturday night. I think St. Michaels do it at the moment.
