Good article about QBs draft position versus pro career, something that has been discussed a few times on this thread.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/reuben_frank/01/03/wild.card/index.html

Of the 10 highest-rated quarterbacks in the NFL this year, six were either undrafted or taken in the fourth round or later.

Anybody watch the BCS game?

Expected SEC victory but penalties killed Ohio State. The guy who roughed the punter when OS were just about getting back into the game was particularly insane.

Comedy halftime show scene with JaMarcus Russell and Troy Smith standing side by side. Looked like little and large.

I think steelers with their best team out there would have won but they didnt and jags won so good luck to them on saturday.
i will agree with you about what a game.i wasnt giving up on them and something said stick around even though they were 18 pts down and when holmes got in i was going balistic.the last 5 mins was so nerve racking though, not good for the aul ticker:).

The Jags-Pats has the potential to be an utter classic. Here's hoping anyway.

it will be tight till the 3rd quarter then pats will move up a gear or 2 and pull away as usual in big games.ill be extremely impressed if the jags lose by less then a touchdown and then ill say they were underrated:).
my predictions.Seahawks to run packers close but lose, pats to beat jags,ny to upset dallas, and colts to put some manners on those upstarts from san diego.

colts to put some manners on those upstarts from san diego.

:p Fraid not. What a performance with Rivers and LT both sidelined, and Gates playing with an injury. Pats are definitely a step too far, but the Chargers have been threatening this for a couple of years...hardly upstarts in fairness. A seriously talented team, quality all over the roster but again not enough to stop the Patriots juggernaut....Chargers won't have a fully fit team for next week and will do well to stay within 14 points of the Pats.

Think I'll head into downtown this evening and enjoy the celebrations. :D

Great weekend for football, except for my Jags. At least they went down swinging. You just can't make mistakes against the Pats. Garrard played well, but the defense just couldn't stop Brady. I don't see the Chargers doing it either. The 'Clots' defense didn't show up today, even with some strange officiating, which was atrocious. The injuries finally caught up to them, but not to take anything away from San Diego. They made the plays they had to without Rivers and LT, so fair play.

The Giants and Cowboys came down to the wire, with the Giants defense stepping it up a gear in the fourth quarter. Should be a good one with the Packers next week. Hope Favre goes on and wins it now, but just can't see anyone beating the Pats.

thats 10 games won on the road and 2 in the playoffs now.they remind me of the steelers in 2005 when they won 3 playoff games on the road but giants have farve in the way next week, too hard i think.it looks to be clear cut as a Pats Packers superbowl, which would be some game.

The Giants defence was fantastic in the fourth quarter. The secondary played tight and the defensive line completely pushed Romo out of his comfort zone and his decision making was awful. Intentional grounding when had no one near him, sacked twice when he was out of the pocket and should've thrown it away.

Looking forward to the NFC Championship game in the Frozen Tundra, it should be closer than the other game anyway.

Roll on FEB 3, Pat's are unstoppable again this year. I've a load of family in Boston and NewHampshire, so have followed the Pat's, The Sox, The Bruins ,and the Celts since I was a nipper and Revolution since their inception. Got to a Patriots Game at the Gillette Stadium and a Sox -v- Yankees game at Fenway when I was over there in 2000. Been Lovin' it the last few years with the Sox and the Pats starting to win things after so long in the wilderness. Hoping to Get back stateside to Join in the celebrations before they turn crap for another 30 years

bears last year, giants this year.............the sleeping giants ( excuse the pun ) are awakening. Add to that the Packers and Cowboys doing well also.

Looking forward to it. Giants ran the Pats close earlier this season so really looking forward to it.

Favre blew it against the Giants, but overall, you have to admire the way Coughlin turned the Giants around. They deserved it in the end, with their defense stepping up to the plate once again. Manning is playing well also, which surprises me, considering all the grief he suffered at the hands of the New York media early on. Their play calling has been exceptional over the last few weeks on both sides of the ball. It'll have to be notch against the Pats if they are to cause an upset. Vegas has them as 13 point underdogs so far. Hoping it's a good game in a few weeks and if they don't turn the ball over, it should be a close one.

Are the Pats vulnerable ? They have conceded quite a lot of points - and scores - in the last few weeks.

Their red zone D kept them in the playoffs last week. Just not sure the Giants have enough notwithstanding the week 16 game

Hell NO! they've got more than enough to comfortably take the Giants. Especially experience the Pat's have been there done that now and that'll help them

I'm not so sure. I think the Giants will watch the tape of Pats against the Chargers with great interest. I'm convinced a fully fit Chargers team would have beaten the that Pats team last week.

Big throw downs abound over here. Beer, Burgers, Hot Dogs and a bit of betting to boot. Just hope it's a good close game and not a blowout as some are predicting. Brady's ankle injury may be a factor if the Giants get to him early and often.

Oh dear :p

That play by Manning (in the match winning drive) to avoid the sack while at 3rd and 5 deserved to win the game in itself. Great finish to a very intriguing match.

No doubt about it at all, the better team won. As unbelievable a drive as you'll ever see to win including the greatest catch of all time (http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d8067d05e)!!!

Absolutely thrilling stuff! To think I saw them play only a couple of months ago in Wembley

Still feel sick(and that's not just the 16" Pizza I ate watching the game) no doubt about it the Giants deserved the win:( . The final Drive from the Giants will be talked about for years but the superb Giants Defence should not be forgotten. I think all in all the spectre of the 19-0 perfect season weighed heavily on Tom Brady's throwing arm and he bottled it in the end.
we'll be back next year

What an end to a game of football. The most incredible, phenomenal, show of balls and belief I've seen in some time. Eli Manning stepped up when the questions were asked and gave one of the most courageous performances I've ever seen from a QB.

Say what you like about Eli Manning but he's a hungry SOB and that was typified by his sheer determination to get that pass away on 3rd and 5.

Fitting way to end the Patriots dream of a perfect season, pure grit determination and bloody mindedness to get away from the NE rush and the sublime skill to pick out Tyrell or whatever his name was finished of by what has to go down as the best catch of Superbowl history (or any I've seen anyway)
can the Pats bounce back? will Brady stick out one more year? will Bellichek abandon ship? I feel this could be the end of the road for the Patriots Dynasty

Brilliant game and delighted for Coughlin. That 3rd and 5 will be talked about forever. The Giants pass rush totally threw the Pats for a loop. Brady was knocked off his feet 18 times, not including the 5 sacks! The opening drive by the Giants really set the tone for this one. Taking almost 10 minutes of the clock, it gave Manning loads of confidence for the rest of the game, not to mention the Pats defense looked gassed after that series.

What an incredible win that was for the Giant's, if ever there deserved to be a team MVP then that was it. Eli in fairness pulled out the play of his life when the chips were down. Hat's off to the guy, I never subscribed to the club who continually knocked him, I always thought the criticism a bit harsh - but that's what they do in New York. He'll be a hero now for a while....til Sept anyway..

Hat's off as well to Coughlan and the defensive co-ordinator guy (possibly off to the Redskins!!) - called a perfect game.

Just got back from Phoenix last night. Absolutely mental place over. Didn't get a chance to get a ticket. Cheapest I found were $2,000 which was well out of my price range. The buzz around the town for the week was fantastic though. Loads of celebrities and big parties around the place. Good banter around the place. Got a photo with Louis Castillo from San Diego Chargers.

Game day was class. We watched it in a bar in Scottsdale. THe bar was full from about 12, game started at 4.30 and we ended up staying there till about 12 that night. It was great to watch the Superbowl without having to stay up until 3am. Good fun after too discussing it in the pub with some of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. It's inexplicable how big a deal it is over there. Far bigger than anything we have. Every type of person is interested in it.

I'm definately gonna go back when I've a bit more money. I cannot reccomend it highly enough. Next 2 are in Florida too.

from Reuters (http://www.reuters.com/article/oddlyEnoughNews/idUSN1416353120080215?feedType=RSS&feedName=oddlyEnoughNews)

Shirts and caps proclaiming the victory of the New England Patriots -- when the American football team actually lost the latest Super Bowl -- have ended up in the hands of poor Nicaraguan children.

Hundreds of shirts and caps, which had been manufactured in advance to celebrate the Patriots' expected victory over the New York Giants, were handed over to children in the southern city of Diriamba.

A nice end to the season!
