I read in the Guardian
http://football.guardian.co.uk/Match_Report/0,,2156856,00.html
that the Newcastle fans in their thousands directed racist and bigoted abuse at Mido in their game against Middlesbrough.
The paper gave due prominance to the abuse, even in their headline.
The only reference to the abuse in the English Times report is that
"Mido’s subsequent booking for shushing Newcastle’s supporters was one of six for Middlesbrou"
Sadly ironic that Mido's offence was putting his finger to his mouth, the shush gesture, after scoring a goal
Nowhere did I read that this racist abuse will be the subject of a serious enquiry by the EPL and that on the agenda the imposition of serious sanctions against NFC.

On slightly different note, I was amused by the Spurs' fans chants at Tevez yesterday: "You're just a sh*te Maradona". Back handed compliment really. O'Shea, warming the bench, seemed amused by it as well as the camera caught him laughing.

No thread is detoured faster than a mere mention of O'Shea content and happy on the subs bench.
If this was a foreign club the english media would be allover it. Hypocrites!

I'm not saying it didn't happen, but could it be that the Newcastle fans were jeering him because he was once linked with them and didn't go.

Considering the chant was allegedly 'Mido, he's got a bomb you know' then that's irrelevant.
If true they should be heavily sanctioned.

I wasn't at the match so I didn't hear it.

Me neither. That's what the allegedly was about. I dont think anyone could consider just booing racist though, especially as you said he was supposed to join them.

Read the feckin article and maybe you might acknowledge that it is a 99% certainity that it happened.
Did Alan Pardew imagine the West Ham fans abuse of Mido when he publically apologised for them? not to mention the Southampton fans abuse.
The question is not if it happened it is if this is classified as racial abuse in the same way that a monkey chant is.
In the recent game the Newcastle fans were singing
Mido has a bomb in his suitcase to the tune of Blue Moon
So, Mido is a suicide bomber because of his ethnicity,
reinforcing bigoted stereotypical views of Muslims.
Then farcically he gets booked for putting his finger to his lips after scoring. I did not see Frank Lampard get booked for that.

That shouldn't be said at all and is bang out of order. I didn't read the article but I never said that I knew for fact that he was being booed for not signing for Newcastle, I said it could be a reason. I didn't hear what was said or what kind of abuse (which is a very loose term) was given.

Mido shouldn't have been booked. Even if he hadn't been abused, he should still be allowed to celebrate his goal, no matter where he is.
By the Frank Lampard incident, the one I remember is when he scored the penalty at Anfield in front of the almighty Kop in the 4-1 win a few years back and he ran up and put his fingers to his lips. What's wrong with that? Why shouldn't a player celebrate? Especially when he's just scored a peno and all the Liverpool fans were jeering him as he took it. If Steven Gerrard did the same down the Matthew Harding End in the same circumstances, I wouldn't have a problem with him celebrating.

There is nothing out of order on my part.
I never assumed anything more than that you did not read the article. Yet you felt confident enough to make a nonsense alternative suggestion as to why he was being abused.
Any other thing I wrote in the post had nothing to do with you.

The abuse Mido (and Hossam Ghaly) recevied at West Ham last year has just been replicated by the knuckle draggers at Newcastle. The FA will sweep it under the carpet because that is what they do best.

It doesn't sound as if the FA are too serious yet.
I attended quite a few of the Arsenal games in the early/ mid 70's, I never heard any stuff being directed at the Irish players then.
