Can't say I ever liked the man, but that was purely for football issues. I always admired his passion for his team and the game. RIP.

R.I.P. a real LOI character.
Agreed.R.I.P.
Always found him an arrogant sort, but he did wear his heart on his sleeve and gave everything in his life for his devotion to his club and the league.
We will miss him, thats for sure.

RIP Ollie
A man who gave his life for his club
Whatever you think of his methods, there's no doubt in my mind that if every club had had someone who cared as much as Ollie Byrne at the helm, the league wouldn't be the shambles it is today
Once again RIP :ball:

It was with great regret that i heard the news of Oliver's passing yesterday morning. Having crossed swords with him on many occassions, he was the type of person who you either liked or disliked. However, underneath it all was a man who was passionate about his football Club and went to whatever lenghts he felt was needed to develop it. Whether you agreed or dis agreed with his methods (quite often mis-guided), you cannot disguise the love he had of 'his' football club.
Having had many differences of opinion over the past few years there was a mutual respect and i'm sure there are many out there in the same boat.
The league will be a poorer place without the 'character' who was Oliver Byrne.
Rest in Peace Oliver.:ball:

RIP Ollie. You'll be sadly missed. Ollie had his faults but his heart was in the right place and Irish football will be the poorer without him.
Condolences to the family and all at Shels.
RIP ollie a true Red and an LOI legend.

Was saddened when heard the news yesterday morning. A man who lived for his club and maybe died for it too.
RIP Ollie, I know many at Mons who will miss clashing swords with you.
Shels fans, friends and family of Ollie, our thoughts are with you all.
Got a shiver down my spine yesterday morning when I read the text that bore the news.
He wasn't everyones cupan tae but he was a football man who loved his team.

RIP Ollie, his legacy was always going to be decided by Shels and their fans, and the pride and love in which they speak of him tells you all you need to know. Sad day for Irish football.

Personally I thought Ollie epitomised all that is wrong with Irish football but he was one hell of a character and I think it is especially apt to say he loved Shelbourne "not wisely, but too well".
Rest In Pease Ollie, you'll be missed.

Every time Ollie saw me at a game in Tolka he'd have a go at me for "all the lies I'd be posting on the internet"
He loved Shels above all else but ultimately he has played a major part in the league becoming more professionally run over the last 10 years.
Rest in Peace

Met Ollie many times when I was a regular in Tolka in the early '90s and always found him very welcoming (I wasn't usually supporting the opposition!). May he rest in peace.

How about i read it myself?
I'm just wondering what is it you're hiding Adam or are you trying to protect those people that i said post here? I wrote that post in a hope that it might preempt what will be a good gesture turned into a sham by a minority of Pats fans, that will do no good for their clubs reputation. I hoped some of the people who plan on doing this might read here first that i know who they are and they will be named if such actions are carried out and that they therefore may rethink the plan of ruining the minute silence.
You don't like me fair enough but surely you see the good of actions? If it doesn't happen, no harm, nobody has been named and i will apologise.

Swift to delete a post but ignorant to answering questions, is that what it is?

Anto, if you'd like to read the thread on Ollie on our forum here it is.
http://www.saintsforum.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=443
And a bit discussing a minutes silence before the the waterford game in this thread
http://www.saintsforum.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=459
A couple of people posted "I hope that nobody boos" type messages and not one single poster, anywhere on our site, posted anything like the comments you have from " a good source"
A few (myself included) had said that if there was a minute's applause I wouldn't applaud. I also stressed that anybody who boos during a minutes silence is scum of the lowest order.
Pats had a minutes silence for Ollie and for a Pats fan who recently died, and it was impeccably observed.
Can I ask why didn't you check the forum yourself, rather than relying on your good source and then posting it up here?

Nice minutes applause in Tolka last night, amazing the way a loss of a football game can be put into perspective on leaving last night and seeing the shrine with the candles etc

Dodge, As i said if i was wrong, i'd apologise and it seems i was so i'm sorry. The reason i didn't check the forum is also because i was told the posts were in a section of the forum not open to everyone. I'm not even sure what forum it was exactly, or if there is more than one Pats forum because i've never been on any of them. Is there a private section to the forum which you posted the links too?
Yes, and I can guarentee you, 100%, that no mention of disrupting any minute's silence was done on it.
