Despise this "should've been called up"
And 4 of the 18 man squad are based in Dublin so its obviously dublin biased
BTW Pats had 4 players in an u21 squad in 1998/99 (Morgan, Molloy, Hawkins and Doyle) Game was against Sweden.

The fact that Garvan hasnt been included shows the blinkers are on even in Dublin.Coleman has been outstanding and deserves a call up IMO.
Anybody know what Colemans DOB is btw.

Dublin bias strikes again.
I wouldn't read too much into team inclusions for this game lads. September is a key month for the league - any decent player for a team with League, Setanta or European ambitions wouldn't be allowed away to play for the U21's. No disrespect to UCD - but the fact they're happy to lose 3 players on the night they're due to play Cork says a lot about their ambitions this season.
On the night of that U21 game, Pats play City at the Brandywell and Bohs take on Rovers. Two massive fixtures for the league and the teams involved. Where would you rather see Pat's key players that night, for example - at the Brandywell or Turners Cross ?
What would be interesting would be to find out if any other EL clubs were approached for players to be included in the panel, and told the FAI no.

I'm sure the reason you don't have any players in the squad is because you're too big and important though.

The importance of Derry is one of Steve's favourite subjects. And that Pats v City game is important Steve, Pats just have to be beating these mid table teams if they've any ambitions to still win the title :D

The UCD website has you down to play Cork in the league at Turners Cross on Monday 10th September as well anyway. Another rescheduled game against Cork would be interesting.

Very childish retort Schumi - I'd expect better from you. Especially as you know that we've been contributing regularly to the U21 panel for the last number of seasons (e.g. Deery). Bottom line is that a club taking the league seriously wouldn't want to lose 3 players at such an important juncture - rescheduling or not.

Errr - yes, they do actually. That's how football works.....
And all this from a Shels fan - the team who couldn't even beat a 9-man City team playing without it's proper keeper... :p

Will never happen.
1) It s aqualifier so they must be released
2) Clubs don't want to **** off the FAI
3) Clubs don't want to **** off their players. And every LOI player wants to play internationally

Another rescheduled game against Cork would be interesting.Avoiding two games against Cork in four days would be a good thing in my book. Having two rescheduled games against one team is hardly unprecedented. Didn't Drogheda and Derry have two games postponed a couple of seasons ago?
Very childish retort Schumi - I'd expect better from you.:D
Dismissing us as an unambitious, small-time club for having three players in a international squad is a new level in fairness.

Yes - and it destroyed our season. As far as I'm aware, both clubs have to agree to a postponement (though the FAI might butt-in if it was for an international game).

You know well that that isn't what I'm saying here - and you know full well that surrendering 3 plasyers at such a key time in the league says a lot. What if Sammon got injured, for example? How worthwhile would it have been to let him go then?
You weren't playing in the league when he was in the squad, then?
We didn't have 3 players away at key times. We have also pulled players in the past from underage international duty (we have NI players as well) when it's been in our interests to do so. It's a huge honour for a player to represent their country, so no manager or club would want to deny them that opportunity. But if it is against your club's interests - and expecially if it could mean losing up to 25% of your frist team squad - you'd have to think twice about it. If you didn't think it would make that much difference to your team, then you'd roll with it.

If its a qualifier. You don't ahve any choice. If he's pulled from the squad, and subsequently plays for the club, the club will face sanctions.
UCD have no choice but to allow these players to go, and are rightly celebrating a nice achievement. Stop beinga begrudging old so and so steve and leave it be...

No, the rule was changed a few seasons ago - one player is enough now for the team affected to get the game postponed. (At least that was the rule under the old league. It might be different this year under the FAI league.)

If a player is called up to an international squad then his team have the right to call a game off, the other team does not have a choice on the matter. with 3 players called up (fantastic achievement by the way, shows why UCD are propably the best youth set up in the country) the game will most certianly be called off.

Now I've got to say here, I've always been a big fan of Darren Quigley but he hasn't been playing regularly for UCD this season (afaik) and imo the best 2 goalkeepers in this country are Brian Murphy of Bohemians and Barry Murphy of Shamrock Rovers. In fact, at times it is difficult to seperate the 2. Brian Murphy is 24 (born 7 May 1983) and Barry Murphy has just turned 22 (born 8 June 1985), thus (I think) making him eligible for Under-21 football (although I do stand to be corrected on that). If, however Barry Murphy is eligible for the squad I can't understand how Quigley is in before him. For the record, Quigley was born 10 June 1986.

Quigley got his nose ahead of Barry Murphy in the first place by coming on the scene first and being the Premier last season. You'll notice that once one player gets blooded into the U-21s they tend to be stuck with. When Ireland played a meaningless game towards the end of one campaign with Switzerland Given still put Henderson in goal in spite of the fact that he was 22 and would never play again instead of giving Quigley his debut. Murphy will probably never be capped at U-21 level at this stage. Quigley is behind Randolph in the queue who just leapfrogged him after a few Conference games.

So let me get this straight - "you know well that" you're not saying we're not ambitious, while in the next clause, you say that "surrendering 3 plasyers at such a key time in the league says a lot".
This thread is hilarious!
For the record, one player on U=21s duty is enough to get a game cancelled; we've invoked the rule before, and will certainly be invoking it for the Cork game.

Same amount of risk as him getting injured if he was playing for UCD.

But dcfcsteve's crystal clear logic shows that postponing matches and getting a backlog is the cause of a title collapse. Now you say a League Cup run can do that too?
We're doubly screwed this year, so.

We're doubly screwed this year, so.What was it Pete Mahon said on the topic? Something like, "I don't know why the so-called professional clubs are complaining, I have prefect faith in my players' abilities to play two matches in 4 days. If other clubs have trouble with it, they should look at their own training plans.". Or something like that.
He might have just been having a dig at Doolo though.
