View Full Version : Douglas Hall 0 - 1 Limerick 37
Well we won anyway, scrapped through a bit, so I'll go into positives and negatives from the game
Positive
We're through!!!
Derek looked quality when he came on
We had a good few of us down in Turner's
Jimmy had a great game between the sticks
Negative
The ref and one of the linesmen were shocking
Douglas ran us ragged at times
Rossi got sent off, not his fault I might add
Rossi might have spat at the lineman after the sending off, I didn't see it myself so not gonna say for sure
The Cork City fans pretty much outsang the travelling Limerick fans in the second half
The Limerick fans who hopped on the pitch after the match, possibly getting us a fine at a time when we need it like a hole in the head

3 different people told me he deserved to be sent off. His first booking was incredibly stupid by all accounts.
If he did spit at the linesman, then I presume the club will take the necessary disciplinary action. Spitting at anyone is the single most hideous thing anyone can do in the game of football in my opinion.

Oh he deserved his yellow, but he got sent off (a straight red I might add, not a second yellow) for reacting to the lineman after he did not give a blatant foul against Rossi. If Rossi did spit after the bred though he deserves to have the book thrown at him by the FAI, let alone L37 (again I didn't see it, but two of the lads I was with did)

Fair enough summation. I thought it was for a second yellow. Straight red may have been a bit harsh but dunno what he said. Saying that since he was already booked he was going anyway. Silly thing to do.
Ye were closer than us, what did you think of the penalty decision?
Ye're keeper played very well and was a great sport also, had a bit of banter with him and he came over an shook hands after.
Are they that stuck for things to do?!
Live football, in the cross, involving a Cork team and possible future round opponents.
There were only 6 people singing btw, not a full shed or anything

Our penalty was a penalty, Derek had his heels clipped by the Hall defender, maybe by accident, but he still tripped him.
As for Hall's penalty shout in the first half, well I didn't think it was, I thought Finnucane's left boot caught the ball before his right caught the man. That said a few of my mates thought it was a penalty and we settled it with the time honoured tradition of agreeing that we've seen them given.
We had a nice bit of banter with Douglas' keeper's mum at one stage, after he saved our penalty we even started a 'you've done your mother proud' chant, which she appreciated I think

You slag off refs and don't know the rules. If it was by accident it cannot be a foul - there must be intent.

if the player gets in front/goes across him and his tripped its a foul intent or not

Then you call it as you see it right? I don't know if there was intent, looked like a few legs got bundled up if I'm honest, but I can see why the ref thought there was intent, so he called it. If I were the ref I'd have given a penalty as well, I'm not though so I can be a bit more diplomatic about this and say that the defender may not, totally 100%, have meant to trip Derek, but he did, so it's a penalty in the ref's eyes.
And I never slagged the ref off for that decision, I slagged him off for being a gutless piece of garbage

We interrupt this debate to ask who Lim 37's 'Harrington' is, U21 player?

There cannot be a foul without intent. Intent is essential. Of course the referee must judge whether there was intent or not. If he judges there wasn't intent then he cannot give a foul.

Well, the ref decides on whether or not there was intent. Obviously this guy decided there was an intent to trip him.
I was referring to your slagging of refs in general. But its okay - all you have to do is watch any match analyst or commentator to hear people talking about 'ball to hand' or 'he had to give the free whether it was an intentional foul or not'. ;)

Thank God tbh man, some of those songs

Was embarresing, like slack jawed yokels down the country for the day.
Hanging around the dressing room to kiss McGees ring afterwards...............
Still we're through which is the main thing and Ski had another great craic with the crowd which is of course very important aswell
Problems remain though as anyone who saw the aftermath of the sending off would testify to
Also, very shapeless at times the midfield was ran ragged
Forgot about that horrible 5 minutes when McGee semmingly hadn't realised that we needed someone to cover the man that Rossi was originally marking, thankfully Douglas Hall forgot about him too
