Exactly.. if people want to sing they should go to a pop concert and not be annoying people at the football.

The few times ive been to shels they even have someone with a microphone conducting the crowd in what to sing its embarassing! Fools think they are Inter Milan :rolleyes:So only Inter Milan fans are allowed sing at games is it? Makes sense alright:rolleyes:

Th efact they are using a megaphone shows they know nobody wants to join in. I can see it as nothing but an ego trip for the main ringleaders and a bad example to set for the younger fans.
A bad example to show younger fans would be causing trouble and fighting. Your posts are idiotic (attacking the posts not the poster ;) )
You think football fans shouldn't sing? Thats ridiculous. Singing and chanting has been part and parcel of football fandom since the year dot. You'd be better off getting a sky sports subscription and watching games on the television because you will never stop fans singing. Singing, noise and colour generates atmosphere at games. It encourages young fans to go to games and gives them something to get involved in that doesn't involve mullets, sh!t clothes and fighting.
I'd rather attendence continued to be poor than have people like you at games to be honest.
What we have in this league that you don't get in the premiership is atmosphere. That needs to be highlighted and marketed more. Its our trump card.

Sorry but no way is the atmosphere better at EL grounds than in england. Ive been to numerous stadiums in england and they dont need some uber fan with a megaphone conducting everyone to get them singing..its more natural than that..do you get me?

I've been at loads of games in England too and the only one I've been at with a decent atmosphere was the Merseyside derby.

did they all use megaphones? No because they are proper football fans. Also were you in the corporate section? The full enjoyement is in the facilities before and after with video replays too, nobody can tell me they wouldnt enjoy that being brought in over here

I'd rather stick my genitals in a mincer than go to a corporate section.
Secondly, Shels use a megaphone. I don't think anyone else in the league does. Personally I think the megaphone is fine if you have a large crowd like in Italy but isn't needed here.
On propper fans, a good many of them have been priced out of going to games in England.

Ourselves, Cork and Derry all definetley use them.
I'd have to disagree with you on them, they really get a crowd going

Cupcakes, i wont even comment on your 'decent class of people' line:rolleyes:

WUM, clearly just takeing the p!ss. And on the half chance that you arent, your wrong and your Premiership branded and packaged style of football will never come over here. the LOI is too unpopular and only the few thousand zealots that continue going to games have the diametrically opposed opinion of yours, so you lose my friend. The drums and megaphones will be going for a long time more, and this is the best part, the trust have actually ordered a megaphone, me and 'the 'not so decent' class of people will have lots of fun with that. ;)

For a nice prawn sandwich. I follow Man Utd but everyone knows it got one of the worst atmospheres in the Premiership

What planet are you from? Old Trafford should be the example all EL clubs strive for. The facilities are top class, even have a tv in the toilets. Im sure if we had similar facilities more would go. The days of consumers tolerating 2nd rate facilities are long gone and its time for the EL to move on.
North Stand Lower v United Road Paddock. Gimme a fookin break.

Back on topic, clubs here should be trying to incorporate safe standing either to one of the German models (which I really can't believe some of them are that much more than normal seats) or should simply incorporate terrace areas into their grounds. The obsession with having a ground which is 100% open for what is for most clubs a handful of European games a decade, never mind a season, is ridiculous.

I'll go back to the Odense example. They have the same steps etc all the way round the ground, but have left some seats out and put cruch barriers in ahead. it absolutely takes nothing away from the aethetics of the place, and is obviously 100% safe

Probably a better example would be Donnybrook or Thomond Park. Those places are rocking for big european games with all noise and support created naturally. The numbers are also loud enough to get a proper song going as well as top class corporate facilities for those who want it in the marquees behind the stands. Everyone is catered for and its such a success tickets for these games are like hens teeth. So as opposed to copying the EPL I agree that this is unrealistic and am big enough to admit that. However Id propose that the Leinster and Munster rugby models are the ones we should use in terms of facilities.

Donnybrook is a far worse ground than several LOI grounds. And has never rocked once for a european game, when it hosted them in the past. Having gone to every Leinster rugby game in Europe for 3 years I can safely say the armosphere has been deplorable, and thats with booze being consumed.

The fact you use the word soccer proves you couldn't possibly be a football fan.

Its different in that it isnt chanting etc but more applause etc which encourages a whole lot more than 10 or 15 lads creating a racket.
 x1,000,000

As for donnybrook being worse.. what EL grounds have the corporate facilities of Donnybrook?
What corporate facilities? A marquee thats set up on the day? Any club could have that. As it is the bars in Tolka, Oriel, Dalymount and others are all better

And using the word soccer so what? Its to make sure nobody confuses it with GAA
and real football fans would never do that...

Leinster and Munster get better support, because they are 2 of only 4 professional rugby teams in the country.

and there's only Football and Gaelic Football, that should distinguish the difference between the two sports for you.

Also add to the fact that most eL clubs would get much larger average attendances than the leinster and munster ''brands'' bar the few big games they will play:rolleyes:

The LoI clubs based near Munster/Leinster/Connaught rugby all have better facilites anyway;)

that you have to stand on terraces to be a "real" fan and anyone who enjoys sitting in comfort in corporate facilities is not.

Thats about it allright, but id include people who sit in the stand as well;)

Just because you can afford something dosent mean you have to go out and buy it.

Fair enough if someone wants to sit in a corporate box behind glass having an overpriced drink/meal. But to call them proper fans is pushing a little dont you think? 99.999% of these types have no interest in the match, simply its an (overpriced) day out for them, same as the dogs, horse racing, the dublin horse show, latter stages of GAA championships and the Heiniken Cup

BohsPartisan

Just because someone can afford some luxury they are less important as a fan?
There are football fans with money who would never sit in a corporate box because they are football fans. I just don't get the corporate box thing, if you are looking for comfort watch football in the pub or at home.

What a generalisation ! Again its inverted snobbery "you have to be poor or in the worst facilities in the ground to be a true fan" such nonsense!

Why do you think we want poor facilities? As has been pointed out on here time and time again, German grounds are among the best in Europe, yet they have terracing.
As for the scrote in a tracksuit comment, who's generalising now?

I opt for the corporate section when I can yet have followed soccer all my life. To say some scrote ina tracksuit is a better fan than me cos he pays in less is ludicrous. Unless you have been in the corporate facilities yourself you cannot comment. I have seen fans in the boxes at old trafford delighted at some goals but according to you they have no right to be happy at such things

Thats not what I said, I simply stated that most people in corporate areas have more interest in spending money than actually being at the match, which is true. While I personally have never been to a corporate facility I have seen and heard for myself what they are like. Fair enogh if thats the way you like to watch football then good luck to you.

Just dont go off claiming to be better than people who 'wear tracksuits' and stand at a match, and saying other idiotic rubbish about players rifling balls at singing sections etc.

Once again your point about money is really petty to be honest, so what if someone has it, they dont have to rent/buy a corporate box etc. for the day to show off. Do these people travel the length and breath of England to watch their club? Thought not:rolleyes:

Red&White Rover
02/09/2007, 12:43 PM
Yes quite often they do.. you obviously associate terraces with good fans and corporate boxes with bad fans. Being a "real fan" and a corporate box owner are not mutually exclusive.

Take Abramovic.. he loves chelsea, is delighted when they win, pumps money into them..and watches in the corporate boxes. See there are good and bad in both the terrace camps and corporate camps.

Well he's hardly going to be thrilled if all his money's worth loses now, is he?

Red&White Rover
02/09/2007, 1:58 PM
Yes but its not about the money

Yeah, you can see his deep lifelong pssion for Chelsea....considering he didn't/dosen't even like football before he bought them...

I'll agree with this.

The idea that anybody who is in a corporate box CANNOT be a real fan is silly. A fan who decides to spend their money to make the experience more comfortable, at the expense of some atmosphere, doesn't automatically lose the right to be called a true fan.

But the problem is what you say yourself about some of those in corporate boxes -

You go to the boxes for a good day out and the football or atmosphereis a side issue

Those people are not real fans in any way.

How many people in the stands or on the terraces will give the same reasons as you've given above, as a reason they go to games. Not many.

I'm certain a far higher percentage of those in the terraces/stands care more about the result than those in the corporate boxes.
