Watched it on German tv - they were all over us the first 30mins and a fair bit of the 2nd half too. One thing you notice is how huge the Germans all were, especially the fullbacks (who were both excellent). The right back & winger had a very good first half, pushed O'Halloran back and put O'Dea under pressure too. Henning, who was upfront on his own, got a fair bit of change out of O'Dea & Keogh. Dirty f*cker though....

First goal, we gave them far too much space on the edge of the area, Randolph got behind the shot well but didn't push it away, and it popped out for Henning to score. Glesson then scored when the German defenders were knocking it around across the area, good pressure & a lovely cool finish, clipped it over the keeper when one-on-one.

Second half we kept possession better but still gave away a lot of ground, Givens seemed to have rearranged to 442 which suited the game better (Germany started with only 1 up). The midfield seemed a bit more compact & Clarke was dropping deeper, and he picked up the ball on halfway after a German corner, went past one guy with pace, turned inside another and played it to Nolan at the far post, who knocked it through the defenders legs and Glesson had a tap-in (with Cregg just behind him). Really classy, Arsenal-Thierry Henry style sucker punch of a goal.

We dropped back a bit after that, really the equaliser was coming, their right back Beck got up well at a free kick and Randolph had no chance. 2-2 was probably lucky for us in the end.

All-in, Clarke was impressive, I thought, O'Brien disappointing (had a great chance in the first half after a fabulous cross from Clarke, and put it wide), and Rooney ran enthusiastically and was in the right place a few times and then mis-hit his shots badly. The midfield was anonymous until we went to 442. Cregg had a couple of sloppy moments. Thought Collins improved things defensively when he replaced Quinn. Randolph could have dealt with the 1st goal better, had not many shots on target to deal with. Overall we were pretty good on corners in spite of the height.

A fair few of the German team played for their Bundesliga teams at the weekend, so overall a draw is pretty good :ball:

Great match report Graham. Top man. Thanks.

Cheers. Has to be some advantage to being 'behind enemy lines' ;) .... and if you thought the Americans can't pronounce 'Keogh' then you've never lived until you've heard a German commentator try it

Thanks for the link to the goals Eirebhoy.
Ireland's second was a beauty, the German's obviously thought so as well and played it again at the end.

German equaliser from a set piece in the last 5 minutes, some things in life are so predictable.

Great report Graham, thanks.

Ireland's second goal was a thing of beauty. Are you sure it was us?
