Stokes has gone three without a goal but Hibs beat Hearts 1-0 in their cup replay last night. They have a home tie against holders Inverness in the quarter final. They'll need a favour or two to reel Rangers back in but it's turning into a pretty good season, with a League Cup final on the horizon as well. This is a month old but I only came across it now - Stokes need to take his last chance (http://www.bbc.com/sport/scotland/35327998).

Getting some stick from the Hibs fans for his performance in the 0-3 defeat to Morton the other night. Walked straight down the tunnel in a huff when substituted apparently.

Some man choosing the Edinburgh nightlife over a proper football team.

Might as well be playing for Shamrock Rovers.

Utter waste of a God given talent.

Two goals tonight to secure a Scottish Cup semi final place against Dundee United. They beat holders Inverness 2-1 away.

Lovely goal by Stokes to put Hibs 1-0 up after no time in Scottish Cup final. Survived a yellow for a rough challenge before it.

Doubt the opposition will let him score in the Euros, anyhow, isn't the Scottish championship about
the same level as the nation league Grimsby play in?

I think you mean thrice, as he scores three time as many goal at the same level.

33 in 46 = 0.71 goals a game
9 in 27 = 0.33 goals a game, prior to that game it was 0.27

And of course the keeper had to help his cross into the net just as he left the goal wide open for his first goal.

I see Rodgers was kind of claiming credit for turning Luis Suarez into a world class player yesterday (something Suarez seems to agree with (http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11787/10290391/luis-suarez-hails-new-celtic-manager-brendan-rodgers)). Hopefully he can do something similar for our Stokesy. :)

I think Anthony's performances against Germany and Kazakhstan were decent enough. I certainly think he showed more than Andy Keogh (Italy friendly in Belgium notwithstanding) and Simon Cox ever did.

With forward options aging, surely he will become a pivotal player for us in the next qualifying campaign if he makes any kind of impact with Blackburn.

SwanVsDalton

I hope he can do it. Probably his last chance to make something of an international career.

Honestly, I don't think Stokes has it in him to be consistent at the level we need but I'm completely up for him throwing that back in my face.

Have to disagree. Let's see if he can stay in the team, continue to work hard and score a couple of goals first. He has not impressed as a player for a consistent or prolonged period for a long time now.

Well it looks like Keane is retiring, Murphy is 33, Walters is 33 next month, Doyle is 33 next month, Hogan & Bamford are no closer to declaring and McGoldrick isn't an obviously superior option - and what's not up for debate is he's not any more likely to score goals than Stokes.

I think he's a gimme in any squad from now on if he maintains any kind of form at all.

He had that fallout with Deila at Celtic but he was shunted out wide or into midfield a lot of the time, and still looked good in the Champions League games I seen him in.

Played out wide in his last few games for Ireland too so he has that string to his bow.

So needs must is what I am saying.

Mason too has always looked capable to me but has never really got a run of games consistently at club level.

Stormed straight down the the tunnel after being replaced midway through the second half, leading to Owen Coyle giving chase.

Chaos at Blackburn. Not the best environment for Jack Byrne, having already endured a relegation battle with Cambuur.

A friend of mine is a big Bolton fan and he has nothing good to say about Coyle. He is vociferously honest about his clubs administrative shortcomings but he said that Coyle was poison from beginning to end and accelerated their downfall. Have to say I was very surprised when he got the Blackburn job and you have to question how long more it will be his.

Pity to see Stokes return to form with the insubordination though. :(

Given 3 league starts, scoring 1 league goal with 2 more in the cup, and is pretty much discarded ever since.

I'm aware he was injured for about 3 weeks but he's been fit for well over a month.

I'd imagine he's on a hefty wage. You would think he'd be given more of a chance than he is getting with Blackburn losing every week.

Coyle is hardly still venting over Stokes's hissyfit in Cardiff three months ago, is he?

TheOneWhoKnocks

Interesting turn of phrase from Coyle re: Stokes.

Anthony Stokes missed out on the Portman Road clash and the manager confirmed he was absent through injury.

“Stokes had a little niggle,” said Coyle. “He has to be focussed and tuned in every day to show the focus that he has.”

I think it's pretty petty to treat him like this just because he stormed down the tunnel four months ago.

He should be making the right decisions for the club, not his ego.

3 goals in his first 2 starts and he's probably played about 120 minutes since.

SwanVsDalton

Sounds like Coyle hasn't been overly impressed with Stokes' commitment in training.

If (a big if) the issue is still the tunnel incident, then Stokes just has to apologise or hope Coyle gets booted out the door. Sometimes it's better to swallow these things. Impossible to know what's really going on there though.
