its the worst 1A in history in all fairness any team with 4 or 5 good players could win it

Agreed see's it, the standard is very poor in 1A this season. Mungret won't win the league. An outside chance of promotion is a more realistic target.

And last season and the season before.
The standard in limerick in general is falling. The premier is not as strong as it once was either.

I think your a bit unfair on these sides! How can you expect teams to get better when any half decent player is snapped up by a premier club even if they dont need the player. Just to make sure no-one else can get them...

But in honesty do you think the standard has dropped in 1A for the last few seasons?
I think the standard of limerick soccer has dropped overall. Not just at 1A but in the premier also.

I know where your coming from gaidin, but I am of the opinion that the sport was never going stay so strong in town once rugby had arrived onto the scene. Would you agree?

For the first time see's it, i agree with you..playing in the league you see it's not a patch on what it has been..even last year, i mean wembley last were a top class team and this year there is no one who stands out as being a class above the rest, everyone is beatable

Well rugby was always there but yes I agree, the rise in popularity in rugby has had an effect on football in town.
The point is that people have been saying for the last 2 or 3 years that the standard is dropping in limerick and unfortunatly I believe it is.

IMO opinion when I was a player I found it hard to play on Sunday mornings, the misses likes to go out Saturday nights. Im sure most of the young lads like Saturday nights too. I dont know if this is possible but could the junior leagues be switched to a Saturday morning/afternoon. Then lads have Saturday night to themselves. I think a few of them would be a bit more interested in that. I think the players are there but not in the same quantity as before. Some sides get absolutely raped by the likes of Pike and Fairview(geraldines for eg).

there's about 8 teams that are still in with a chance of winning it.but as everyone is sayin and I've said all along its a brutal division this year, last year wasn't great but there were two teams that stood out from the rest and they got promoted.
The teams that came down are very bad, i don't know if they lost players or if they have he same squads as last year but If they had those players playin prem football last year then it doesn't say much for the standard up there either.
As is mentioned as well I think the sunday mornin games are turnin a lot of good players off playing .

Personally I think sunday morning kick offs at 10:30 is not helping anyone.

If the games were a Sat morning kick off, then most players would go out on Fri night's,
I think its a lack of interest from players in recent years more than anything else.

I agree with that. A lot of people are just not interested anymore.
And I think some of that is down to the early kick offs on sunday as Hoops 1967 said.

the problem with junior soccer is that life has changed alot over the last 15 years nowadays young fellas of 22/23 are buying houses and working hard all week including saturdays, after a week of work and paying bills young fellas still like a night out and thats were soccer takes a back seat.15 years ago most people buying houses were in their 30s settling down, priorities have changed alot

so your saying bertie is to blame , for the booming celtic tiger economy allowing more young people to afford houses taking them away from the football fields :D

There must be some seriously rich 22/23 year olds in town. I don't know one 22/23 year old who can afford a house. That is the worst post of the thread, absolute rubbish!!

In fairness Sees It has a point, but maybe not at 22/23, I'd say more like maybe 25ish.
I know more than a handfull of blokes at 25 or so taking mortgages out to buy houses.
My own opinion still stands as a lack of interest from some players point and regardless of what day or time the games are on, some players will still go on the p*ss the night before a game.

It doesnt matter what time or what day these games are on,If lads want to play so much they will wait for sunday after the match for a pint or even friday night like it was said, imo
very hard to do if all your mates go out on saturday night, and if you have to get up for work on monday....sometime you have to make the sacrafices and some people aren't willing to do that for whatever reason, thats life it all boils down to priorities it clearly does;t mean that much people if they cant have a couple of pints then get home at a decent hour

If lads are buying houses at that age then the chances are they will be flat broke most weekends. lads with houses and that crack will play more soccer when they have the house than when they had no financial obligations. 100euro to go out for a night.
It's more of a reason to play soccer if anything. The reason i think is sunday morning kick off. Your hands are tied behind your back for the weekend. You can do f-all. Cant go away unless you have a free-weekend, cant go for a pint on Saturday with your mates, cant have a few pints Saturday due to work commitments on the morning...

Having games on saturday morning would have the same problems if not worse..most people who work mon-fri jobs want to go out for pints on friday nights..its split between fri and sat nights.refs wont take matches on sunday afternoons and people work saturday....its a no win situation!

Still along way to go yet..Killmallock look to be in a fantastic position for promotion.next 3-4 games should show the league taking a bit of shape.Mungret still have to play Caherdavin twice in their final 11 games which could be important.who else do caherdavin have to play in the first round of matches?

Kilmallock i feel are easily the best side when they are allowed play football and are my favouites to go up. I think its between Mungret and Hill Celtic for second. Feel these two are the next best in the league but then again that doesnt mean they will necessarily go up. At the other end Caherdavin look to be gone already and with the other sides at that end of the table getting results of late it could be anyone to join them come the end of the season.

what a shame caherdavin will be playing in 1B next year, this time last year they were looking good for promotion to premiere. caherdavin used to have the best underage setup it town and a strong junior setup but now the club looks like it could disappear if they don't sort something out.

The above scenario will be played out in a lot of football area's in the comming years.i am not trying to give a sociology lesson. if you please, listen to my descriptioin of the facts facing a lot of the older clubs in the CITY.Clubs like Caherdavin, hyde, granville and to a lesser extent boro , geraldines are and will, all suffer from the changing demographics of their catchment areas over the next few years.I grew up in janesboro and we had at least 1 team in every schoolboy grade, mostly local with a few from kennedy and glasgow park. as these player matured to adulthood most either gave up football or moved away to new areas to start thier own families. just going on the janesboro situation there are very few young families in the area.
You also have the situation where people are having fewer children and are not having children untill later. this causes a generation gap and fewer players to call upon. Most of the newer clubs in the suburbs are booming,Regional, Mungret, these are now the areas with the youth available in sufficent quantities.
