Here in England most teams have a song or some dramatic music which is played when the teams are coming out onto the pitch.
If there was a decent PA system at the cross I think it would add to the atmosphere. Let everyone know it was time to stand up and make some noise. Make it intimidating for the away team.

Decent PA System is right.
They've tried over the last few years to sort it out but its still melojun.
