For those of you putting posters up for the match, if any of ye are refused by certain shops, post them here:

Boycott:

Celtic Bookmakers, High Street Sligo[They see fit to have an SPL poster up with Celtic on it though]

Only done a few so far so their might be more soon.

Whatever about a boycott, that's up to the individual. But by all means NAME and SHAME.

Look i don't think we should be going on a public forum, looking for Rovers fans to boycot any shops but that is just my opinion. You're not the supervisor there by any chance?;)

**** it, if they dont put a poster up then I think Rovers fans should know. As Redzer said though, let the individual boycott it if they want.

Why not? A boycott is a perfectly normal, reasonable and legal response to a slight.

Dont think club would be too happy with this approach incase they have to go looking for sponsership in the future.

If they wont put up a poster, they will hardly give sponsorship.

If they wont put up a poster, they will hardly give sponsorship.

Sponsorship is different to putting up advertising posters, sponsorship is tax deductable and provide publicity for the business. As for put up posters some businesses have guidelines as to putting up posters for advertising events.Where do they draw the line?Wanted posters!

The club are trying to gain positive publicity out of this not create bad publicity.

Time to grow up lads!

Different Business have different policies,a poster is a poster no matter what its advertising as I said where do you draw the line on putting them up?

As for having a Celtic poster up its in the name ain't it.Their business is gaining from it in the long run thats what matters.

Club does'nt need negative publicity!

Club does'nt need negative publicity!I know it doesn't and it isn't getting it either. You're the one being negative. If you wanna use that bookies then that's your own decision.

How am I been negative?I have stated that it will be the club who may suffer if fans start Boycotting businesses over not putting up a advertising poster.Just answer this If this business is approached in the future about sponsership what chance do you think we will have of getting any,if any of management team gets wind of this Idea of yours. If a set of fans case trouble outside the ground it reflects on the club likewise if fans decide to boycot something of course it will reflect on the club.I know it be my decision to use bookies but dont even know what one looks like.I maybe mistaken but I think this business has signs around the ground and in the match program. So they are doing there bit.

This is not meant as an insult but Sligoman you have a weird way of loooking at things between the GAA Shligo remarks and this Idea can't figure out where your coming from.

Stupid decision by Celtic bookmakers anyway, what ever their policy is. Doubt they will be refusing any bets on Rover-Bray tonight. Just as a matter of interest did any bookies refuse to put up the posters?

fans have power because we shop in the town - its our money that keeps those shops going. If shops have policies that are contrary to the wishes and beliefs of us as fans of Sligo Rovers then we have the right to boycott those shop in a way to teach thoses shops a lesson and also to send a warning out that "if you dont support us we wont support you".

If the manager or owner of the said bookies saw all the negative publicity that they were getting from their decision not to allow this simple request then I am sure they would make a different decision next time - other shop/business owners would also have a similer view, but thankfully most of them seem to have rightly supported our club.

I for one will not be giving my business to that bookies again, and not only that I will also be causally disuading my friends and family from using it either.

Thats strange lads to be honest. We went putting up posters all around Limerick last week for our home game this Friday and no one place had a problem. Pity that the bookies had that attitude. We actually put one up in a Celtic Bookmakers in Limerick so it was that individual shop that had the problem

This is ultimately counter productive and unnecessary. If you have an issue with a premises that is fine, but naming and shaming on a public forum for a trifle issue of not putting up a poster for reasons we don't know, is not good practice.

We're trying to develop community spirit not create barriers. Should a company decide against a putting up a poster that is their decision. They are not obliged to.

Focus on the positive.

sligoman
12/03/2008, 9:46 PM
Well they're obviously not interested in community spirit if they don't put a poster up. As for not naming them on a public forum? It's the best place to name them as more people will see it.

if anybody is refused in requesting posters being put up just take it on the chin and make no comment. the majority of shops will take them on board. we do want to generate a positive image of sligo rovers so any refusals although unwelcome will be in the minority. in the end we will win out and these people who refuse will want to jump on the bandwagon later on in the season believe you me . dont forget we are in for a very exciting season. mark my words

Sligo Rovers F.C. wouldn't be encouraging gambling would they?:) Seriously though, not a bad idea. Ladbrokes should put something together now that they've a sponsorship deal with us.

I went to the SU to get them stamped but they couldn't find the stamper! So he just told me to put them up anyway because he looked at them and said they were ok. Unless some of the student population took them down for whatever reason.

No one is to apply to attend the I.T. in Sligo!!!!!

Any of you who are attending will have to drop out of your course.

I know people who work there, who are considering their positions within the college.

i find it very impersonal, sorry. staff like robots and not very helpful when you ask for help in finding something. get the feeling that this is what shop management want.

more importantly what did they do to harm sligo rovers?
