Setanta do not give figures & TG4 only give the top 10 so it can be difficult to judge.

The last TG4 figures have 2 Football programmes in the top 10 irish programmes:

Irish Programmes
No. Programme Name TVR 000s Share
2. Sacar Beo 1.1 46 3.8%
6. Sacar Beo 0.7 29 2.9%

The only games they showed that week were:

Sat 28th July: Bohs v Sunderland.
Fri 27th July: Sligo v Shamrock Rovers.

I suppose its obvious which one got the higher number. :(

Sure is! When the rovers are playing, not even a meaningless sunderland friendly can out do them...

I'd say your lot might have accounted for a small number of the viewers as well Buller - you can't give Sligo all the credit..... :D

I was reading today that TG4 paid 100k euro for the rights to cover the 3 games & Setanta paid 40k for the international rights. I believe they pay is it 7-8k per eL game?

It looks like at best TG4 got double the viewing figure that they get for average eL game but they are paying 4 times as much...?

They probably made up the shortfall through advertising.

Bingo. Try selling 30 second slots for during an Eircom league game versus for during a Sunderland one in Ireland and see the different response you get.....

* Will they get twice the revenue?
* If advertisers paying more than twice the eL game rate are they paying over the odds?

Mr A

Thye may have got more than twice the revenue. Harps charged around ten times the price for sponsorship packages for Celtic than a league game, and probably sold them ten times as easily. That's just the way a lot of people are in this country- if there's a cross channel team involved money is no bother.

Presumably the smallest one is the eL game & the other 2 are the scumderland friendlies.

still, 33,000 is up 4k on last weeks game.
will be interesting to see how many tune in this friday for the Drogs/Pats game

Yep it's top of the table clash on TG4 at 7:30pm. If Pat's lose the title race could be all over! Hopefully it'll be a good game as there might be a good few more heads tuning in. Drogs always have a good home support so hopefully it will be a good showcase of the country's current top 2.

Aug 10 Drogheda United v St Patrick's Athletic 2-0 TG4 48,000 tv viewers

It would be small by RTE numbers but was 4th highest of all programmes on TG4 last week.

According to the latest TV3 figures the 20th show got 111k views therefore eL Weekly gets lower than that. It think it is all to do with percentage of viewers as obviously a 11.30pm slot won't do as well as 8pm. If the numbers were poor TV3 would not continue.

TG4 figures can only be compared with their other shows as not fair to judge against RTE numbers.
