Theirs a long list(most I never saw playing tbh). Tony Fagan, Johnny Armstrong, Stenson(Tony?), Harry McLoughlin. My generation: Padraic Moran, Johnny Kenny, Rafael Cretaro.

dixie dean.Knew someone would say him. He was only here for a season(if even a full one) so can't really go down as greatest player. Certainly the most famous though.

well he probably was in fairness..

Dixie Dean did score five goals in the one match against Waterford probably the greatest individual achievement by any Rovers player. He would have too be up there even though his time was short. Rovers were beaten cup finalists and runners up in the league when he was here. Ski McGee the best talent ever to come out of Sligo. Eddie Annand loads more. Most of them are here (http://homepage.eircom.net/~sligoroverssc/Top100/Top100a.htm)

My era starts 1980 on......so I'll go for Harry but other worthy of a mention are Fago, Stenny, Big Chris, Martin McDonnell, Johnny Kenny, Annand, Moran and of course Ski.

It would be hard to beat this team. IMO the greatest player ever to play for the Rovers was without doubt Tony Fagan. For 17/18 years he always gave 100% + and particularly in the early 70's he carried some very weak teams on his back. He also starred in the League win in 1976/77 and the Cup win in 1983.

My era started i 1976 and I would go with rusheen's candidate - Fago - loyal servant and fantastic player would give his life rather than lose in the red and white

OR

Contrary to Avenalaf (who obviously is) i couldnt in any rovers team leave out Harry McLaughlin who in my lifetime was the most skillful player to produce year on year in the showgrounds that i have ever seen.

Red Away, you didn't see Johnny Armstrong, did you?. No disrespect to Harry but he wouldn't have laced Johnny's boots.

Greatest of them all ? In terms of what he brought to and did for the club, definitely FAGO.

best player i have seen at the showgrounds was that guy who used to play with bolton, tony kelly - a fat lad but an absolute pleasure to watch- certainly in my time he was our best ever player along with Eddie Annand, i also rated padraig moran very highly- here' my best eleven, centre halves is the only area i would be willing to debate

1..... O'HARA
2.......Coleman
3........Brunton
4..........Birks
5............Charles
6..............Kenny
7.................Hastie
8...................Kelly
9.....................Annand
10.......................Moran
11..........................Cameron

That's good team from your time except that Birks and Charles would both have been sent off by half time if they had to deal with Brookes and Leonard.

Avenalaf - i never had the pleasure of watching armstrong in action but i have spoken to many old timers about armstrong and all agree he was indeed a very skillful player but the other comment that was common to the discussion was that he tended to go missing from games if the going got tough or he wasnt getting much joy from his oppposite number he dissappeared from games. Some made disparaging comments that he wasnt that brave in a game - and whilst i disagree with most of that as he has a great record for rovers and that shouldnt be tarnished but harry was brave, very brave and in a woeful team! But as i havent seen armstrong i will have to take your word for it.

Chris Turner must be up there

I'm a massive fan of Turners but he deffinatly is not one of the greatest. It would have taken him another season or two to become one of the greats.

But thanks anyway Chrissy!

eddie annand has to be worth a shout.
every time we used to go to away matches it would be 0 0 with 10 mins to go and he would score a winner - made the journey worthwhile
i know he was a rangers fan but he can be forgiven for that
