Sound familiar? Didn't think so but this is the date of St. Patrick's Day next year. It's been brought forward 2 days due to the church deciding that there can't be any celebrations during holy week or some crap[can't remember rightly]. Think it's a stupid decision that they can change the date of an official holiday tbh.
It won't happen again though until the year 2160:D.

the RC Church may be celebrating it on the 15th.... but for the National holiday the date remains the same ie the 17th. Nice to see such a claer separation of Church and state ...pity it's only for one year

That's more to do with the fact that the 15th is a Saturday though.

If that is what they said, which I doubt, then they are incorrect.
Feilte Dhuibh Linne Teoranta, the organising body of the National St. Patrick's Festival Parade in Dublin, seek a license to hold the 2008 St. Patrick’s Festival Parade, on Monday the 17th of March, at 12 noon.
As Calcio Jack mentioned, the church feast day & the national holiday are separate.

They must transmit a different news programme for the sligs, because I'm fairly certain that it wasn't said in the Dublin news.

No they didn't. They clearly said that all secular events would still be on the 17th.

It's probably a good idea. 17th is a Monday so ya don't want to be drinking all day Monday, and going back to work Tuesday. Saturday session is much better idea.

You'll get the Monday off, because the 17th is a Public Holiday, in the Republic of Ireland. Even if the 17th fell on the weekend, you'd still get the Monday off.

So whats the story in your county?. In Galway anyway the parade will be on the 17th, i presume the pubs open on this day, so a normal Paddys day here anyway.
Whats the story with Limerick, Clare, Cork??. We're meant to be playing Cobh on the 15th(Saturday)

I heard something on the radio a few months ago that it's only church stuff that will be on the 15th. Anything else (parades, etc.) will be on the proper day.

If that's the case ill be making the trip to Cobh, would'nt want to be sitting on a bus on ''Paddys day'' though for a game so early in the season!!
