According to Spillane today, City had to turn down 2 friendlys with Bolton and Kilmarnock due to the lack of available suitable pitches at the moment.
Pity. It would have got 2 full houses id say, and not too many bar stoolers as they dont really "support" either.

IMO, it's not a pity in any way, shape or form. Those clubs were very unlikely to draw any sort of a decent crowd, and city would have been sitting on a big financial loss before the season even started. City are keeping a low profile in their build-up to the new season, and I for one am quite happy with that.
Shame, these are exactly the type of teams we should have friendlies against. They would provide a good test for City and would draw a big crowd.
The big factor is that people would come to the game and support CITY. I never ever want another game where people would support the opposition over City a la the Celtic game but that situation wouldn't arise against the likes of Bolton or Kilmarnock.
Why have city got no pitch?
there's work being done to the x

Which hopefully will involve levelling the pitch out. The slope in the pitch towards the Shed/Derrynane and the Shed/Donie Forde corners is absolutely unreal and a complete disgrace to the club.

One of the countries potentially biggest clubs playing on a surface like that. That's how.
Yes, the MFA own the ground, but increasingly, the practice is for City to make some monetary contribution toward any work done.

Christ it's only a shagging tiny slope! It's not like it's going to detract from the quality of play, is it??
If you'd ever played schoolboys football you'd see pitches with slopes the size of Patrick's Hill!
Everton's back pitch and Waterloo spring to mind :)

think those two friendlies would have been a great idea.would have got some good crowds but more importantly in pre season, great practise for the lads.....

Ever stand next to, not in, the Donie Forde, nearly level with the pitch?? That slope is f***ing MASSIVE.

No, none of would want to see a world cup winner and a few Champions League winners would we?
Question To SEJ : Do you just disagree with everyone for the sake of it or what????
It is a pity that we did not play the both of them.there is all ways next year to play teams like them.:) :)

Lets play Bolton in the Reebok.
It's a lovely ground and only just down the road.
Another nail in the coffin of season ticket holders who paid over the odds on the basis of getting into all games including friendlies..

Ehh SEJ have you ever been to Old Trafford? Pretty funky slope there 3 feet it is.
Slopes on a lot of pitches are central to the drainage of the pitch.
Esp when you consider some of the friendlies the club have lined up... :(

He does.
He's the world cup winner.
but GWA said there's a few Champions League winners there between them and Kilmarnock, who?
Don't think Djorkaeff won that.
GWA?

In a word: NO! Knowing the fickle nature of Cork soccer fans, how many could you REALLY have seen coming to those games? 2-3,000, maybe?

And have you ever been to Nantes' ground?? Absolutely 100% like a snooker table that pitch is. Not a slope to be seen, and probably the best surface in Europe, if not the world, to play on.

We had a pitch as good as that, if not better, in Cork...but all lost for the sake of a few pounds..

Yeah, you really would know that it's only the 2nd choice ground for GAA. Typical of the crowd running the soccer here, though. Instant gratification, and f**k the cost.
