Ireland call-up uncapped Owl Quinn

Brian Kerr has called up Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Alan Quinn into the Republic of Ireland squad.

The uncapped Quinn, 23, wins his call-up after the the withdrawals of Sunderland midfielder Jason McAteer and the versatile Leeds player Gary Kelly, who have topped 100 caps between them.

Birmingham striker Clinton Morrison, who scored in Kerr's first game in charge of Ireland, has also been forced to pull out with a dislocated shoulder.

Ireland face crucial matches against Georgia and Albania and Quinn - first selected by Kerr at Under-17 level - is a player much admired by the new manager.

The manager has been unsuccessful in his bid to call up Wolves winger Mark Kennedy, with the First Division club concerned about the prospect of his hamstring injury recurring again.

However, John O'Shea (hamstring) and Steve Finnan (ribs) will both travel to Dublin to have their injuries assessed in the hope that they will recover sufficiently to travel with the team for the two matches.

Revised Ireland squad: Given (Newcastle), Kiely (Charlton), Colgan (Hibernian), Carr (Tottenham), Finnan (Fulham), Harte (Leeds), Cunningham (Birmingham), Breen (West Ham), O'Brien (Newcastle), O'Shea (Manchester United), Reid (Millwall), Quinn (Sheffield Wednesday), Kinsella (Aston Villa), Holland (Ipswich), Carsley (Everton), Healy (Celtic), Kilbane (Sunderland), Duff (Blackburn), Keane (Tottenham), Connolly (Wimbledon), Doherty (Tottenham
