i wasnt wincing for Everton, i was wincing at giving my favourite footballer of all time a whalloping. I was overjoyed at Everton scoring 7, Mohammed and Ala know thats a rare feat!! But I just wished it could have been at anyone elses expense

The point is that true football fans only care about one team. You think any scouse Everton fans winced?

I would consider myself a big Roy Keane fan. IMO the best footballer to play for Ireland.

But I really hope Sunderland fail and get relegated. The Plastic Sunderland propaganda in the media is sickening and anyone who jumps on that bandwagon is a tool IMO.

CCFC first and foremost. And the thought of someone wincing at their own team scoring, isn't as die hard as they thought they were I guess.

True in this situation.

But, if Everton fans were to wince at a humiliating defeat for a team managed by a former Everton player - Neville Southall for example, would that make them less than "true" fans?

The so-called popularity of Sunderland is a classic example of bandwaggoning Irish so called fans latching on to something trendy. The best thing that could happen from an ELOI perspective would be if Sunderland got relegated and RM Keane got sacked. ;)

Great idea for a cheap stocking-filler for any undiscerning footie fans you know: Golden Discs are now offering the DVD on Sunderland's Championship-winning season for a fiver (down from 19.99 which, funnily enough, is the current market value of Greg Halford, Roy's astute 3mil acquisition from Reading reserves).

Might you, a few home wins and it will be back up over a tenner again. Such is life.

in all fairness, there is a fair load of bul-****e being posted on this thread. I support ireland, and man united. i like to watch Celtic, and now Reading and Sunderland because of the Irish interests. Guess that makes me 'not a true fan". I'll work on narrowing it down to one team over the coming weeks.....jaysus sake....

Drogheda United have a few Irish lads playing for them too. I think you should consider adding them to your list.

But I guess Billy Bunter already anticipated your response.

No. Why? Who mentioned "Full Irish Internationals"?? In his last comment he said "The Irish Interests" which I assumes means a higher-then-most proportion of Irish Players or managers (hey, maybe he supports teams based on nationalities of board members for all I know!!). Newcastle also have some Irish players playing that are "Full Internationals" but he didnt mention them.
Anyway I still reckon he should consider Drogheda (sorry gustavo!!) because next season they will be representing IRELAND in european club footballs most prestigious competition. Something all the aforementioned clubs can never do (well, unless they apply to join the LOI that is) and you cannot get more irish then that..which seems to be what he's looking for.

So that limits him to Cork and Bohs.
