The Great Wall of China, the Colosseum in Rome and Peru’s Machu Picchu are leading contenders to be among the new seven wonders of the world, as a massive poll draws to a close.
Stonehenge is also in the 20-strong shortlist hoping to take one of the places.
Votes have been cast by more than 90 million people, organisers say. As the deadline of 1am tomorrow approaches, the rankings can still change.

Wait till she hits forty and see if her ass is still defying gravity. Then I'll vote. In the meantime, I'd be glad to monitor the situation for you.:D

The Dom is probably a bit modern...it is the 7 wonders of the ancient world after all (isn't it?). Bloody impressive building though.
No, its not neccessariky ancient (The Eiffel Tower is in there)

No it's to decide on 7 wonders of the modern world ie they must currently exist. The pyramids of Egypt are is the only 'wonder' of the ancient world that still exists.

Fair enough then...The Koelner Dom gets my vote. Along with the Las Vegas Strip, the Colosseum, the Mother Russia statue in Volgograd, and 3 others that I'll think of later :)

it cant be modern if the pyramids and stone henge are on the short list.newgrange is older then both of those and its bloody impressive how they got the entrance to line up with the Sun beam on the longest and shortest days too.

its not "modern", its just revised to include only wonders standing today.
doesnt seem too hard to line the entrance up with the sun on the solstice - just start building on the solstice with the door facing the sun  the pyramids on the other hand are a wonder of engineering.

No one's arguing the pyramids but how is Stonehenge (a few stones placed on top of each other) worthy of a nomination and Newgrange not?

It's more famous. It's kind of like why talented English youngsters cost about an order of magnitude more than any other nationality.

Table Mountain should've been there, if perhaps a little too natural :D

The Pyramids in Egypt anyone? Possibly to replace the Taj Mahal?
Weren't the pyramids part of the traditional 7?

No reason they couldn't be both, surely?

Without having looked it up I was presuming they were looking for 7 new things.
Without a doubt the Pyramids would be included in any (non time dependent) list

Can't really call it the Seven Wonders of the World then, more like the Seven non-obvious, slightly wonderous, Wonders

Pyramids are included, they were "grandfathered" in. These 7 were on top of it.

Chichen Izta is hardly the equal of the Egyptian pyramids, but I'm not going to pay the slightest heed to a text poll.

Good shout about the Golden Gate Bridge. Its construction was fraught with challenges and built at a time, 1930s, when engineering was not very developed. It didn't even make the long list though! The Panama Canal might be another omission in the same vein.
I saw Christ the Redeemer last year and would agree that it is not all that wondrous. It is bigger than you'd think alright and the vista is unbelievable but as a feat/dedication of man-kind inspiring awe I don't think it measures up quite the same as, say, the heads on Easter Island.
As it happens, I'll be at Chichén Itzá next week to savour my fourth of seven wonders!! I'll happily report back with my findings:)

I'd have thought that was obvious. Kelleher has no interest in big tall buildings - the whole thing is just a cunning ruse to drive da Bears out of town.
