The 9.30 sports news began (i.e. first item) that Ferguson has promised to cut his hair really short if Ronaldo scores 20 goals for him this season

I despair. What will the media be like in another 20 years or is it an age thing? Do the teen members here or those in their early twenties think this is worth having at No. 1 in the sports bulletin or indeed mention it at all?

That's pathetic. They sound like a bunch all ready for a spot in the tabloids.

Don't worry lads.. I've applied for Journalism and Spanish in DIT. Hopefully in a few years time I can stop the downward spiral in Irish sports journalism.

The trouble is Sports news is "dumbed down" for non sports people. Ever had a look at the sports section on Sky news at 8.20 by Jackie whatshername or on BB1 at 8.35 am by whatshisname Hollins (son of the famous Chelsea player I think). Nothing of substance; just pleasing soundbites and stuff about the presenter rather than NEWS. Heaven forbid during soccer season that you wanted to know about soccer outside of Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho or Benitez or their clubs or what they had for breakfast.

They do "High School Hits" in the morning (should be "Secondary School Smashes" but we won't got in to the Americanisation of the language) and play hits from the 70s and 80s which I like. Better than listening to Gerry Ryan or Ray D'Arcy ;)

Beckam's knee injury was the first item on the same sports bulletin this am, ahead of the Drogs in San Marino, St. Pats and the Irish at the golf

Thinks thats bad, on the day Beckham touched down in LA recently that news 'story' was on the 24 hour news stations of CNN, Sky, BBC, and Fox as their main news story, what do we get when we hit the sports bulletin, the exact same story. Then I turn on the news broadcasts of RTE, Channel 4 and ITV at their respective times and get the same frigging story, and then again in the sports news. I'm not even going to talk about Sky Sports News round the clock Beckham watch.

I ended up turning on TV3's news, having correctly assumed that they would wheel out their daily, 'a dog and a cat getting along' story instead of Beckham, and breathed a sigh of relief before vowing never to watch TV3's 'moment of nice' news bulletin ever again

Not sure. I turned over to Ray D'Arcy's odd one out quiz.

Let me guess, it was Beckham's knee as it was the only injured one?

The only way I'd hope Ronaldo scores 20 goals this season would be if Ferguson would cut his actual head off nevermind his hair.

Thing that annoys me is the phrase "meanwhile here at home" for some reason it sounds condescending , perhaps im just paranoid

Love the Radio Roy skit of that:
"Mars, Jupiter, Snickers"
"Snickers, the others are planets"
"No-oh [phonetic Langer is tricky], Jupiter, the others are bars"
etc. for a couple of minutes, the contestant steadily going apoplectic.

That's deeply pathetic. At least Madrid, Arsenal, et al are successful clubs.

But will they buy? Doubt it. Like the piles of Sunderland promotion dvds I saw in DID Electrical. Will be sold off as remainders in a few months for next to nothing.

One of the red tops ran a story about people rushing out to buy LA Galaxy jerseys today, whether it was a thinly veiled advert for Lifestyle etc., or based on actual sales figures I don't know however

Having worked for Lifestyle in the recnt past, they always try out new selling angles to see how they do.

Selling Polish jerseys for the World Cup (worked), selling Marseille jerseys (didn't work), selling el jerseys (didn't work), selling Canterbury rugby boots (worked).

Imo, it's another sales pitch from them to see if it'll work.

very depressing that selling EL jerseys didn't work, but selling MLS jerseys will probably take off

I remember they sold Bohs and Rovers jerseys. The Bohs jerseys were reduced every few weeks, in the end they were on sale at €15 and ended up being shipped back to the warehouse. The Rovers jerseys weren't reduced as dramatically but they didn't sell any better.

They play 70s music (also 80s/90s) between 9 and 10 am and I am a child of that 70s generation :o. The flairs are in the attic. You are then instructed to "Text me" to guess the year. No prize just money for them for the fools who text in
