I'm flying over for the rugby in September and thought I'd head to Carcassonne before I train it up to Bordeaux. Is there anything else in the region that I should try and see before I head home? Would it be worth visiting Marseille/Nice? I know it's 5/6 hours on the train but if it's worth it I'll try and head that way.

Cheers if you can help.

Can you speak fluent French? I've been all over France and the Southerners really get offended if you can't, from my experiences anyway, some even refuse to talk to you, I mean I could speak French alright, I got by in the Vendee, but it wasn't enough for some of them.

The west coast south of Bordeaux down to the Spanish border is fantastic, particularly around Biarritz and St Jean de Luz. Just back from a week there. The Basque are great people and have a great culture.

Re your point Jebus, I found that to be true in the past, but more recently I have found the French much more accomodating.

I'll look into that area OneRed. Would you need to hire a car?
