It was with great optimism that United travelled northward to the Brandywell last Friday night to take on the might of Derry City in the FAI Ford Cup 2nd round. United were fielding their strongest team of the season so far and were very much up for a game.
Kevin Williamson showed Kevin McCourt that he meant business from the off by keeping the pressure on him as he tried to secure an early goal. McCourt’s ball was easy pickings for United’s ‘keeper Alvin Rouse. Gareth McGlynn was next to take a pot-shot but despite having rounded Williamson, McGlynn shot wildly over the bar.
