Rumour that Cora Staunton retired from soccer after Mayo qualified for GAA final. A team from Ennis must have been delighted to hear the news on Sunday while one from Limerick must be cussing that it didn't happen a week earlier.

Is the retirement permanent or just until GAA finished?

Does she figure in Noel King's plans at all?

I heard she has picked up a back injury on saturday eve.She is a very strong player, not the most skillfull, but knows where the goal is.I dont think she let her soccer team-mates down.

Perhaps an invitation from Mr. King would entice her (Cora) back.

Rasper are you sure Lifford are at home to Raheny in the senior cup semi?
I think Raheny v Galway final. Lifford beat Raheny in Intermediate cup final 2 years ago and have same team. Raheny have imported a number of good established players and must be red hot favourites for the final. Lifford are a well organised team and never give up, so I expect them to give a good account of themselves. Almost all their players have come up through the underage ranks.
Wilton also have a great underage policy and bring on their own players. They will struggle to beat the Galway league however. Wilton are untouchable in Cork but will find Galway a different proposition.
Good luck to all teams.

Rahney at home to Lifford, Galway away to Wilton. All games to be played on the 16th of Sept. So why are there training sessions on that same weekend for the under 19s and the senior squads. this is making a joke of the entire senior cup. This is the biggest Cup game for These four clubs and their best players are being asked to go from pillar to post the day before they are due to play in the semi finals. Not good enough. The dates for the cup matches have been out for ages so how has this come about. The only people to suffer are the players. The FUN is being taken out of Game

Perhaps the FAI/WFAI should consult their own calendar - see file 865

When is the final on. I've heard it will be at Terryland Park.

Match to be played on the 14th Oct. The powers that be want to have it on in Dublin. I think they should toss a coin for home advantage or play it in Athlone, a netural venue for both teams. The Galway team have played their last 3 matches away from home i`m sure that they are hoping to have the game in Galway at Terryland. As has been proved there is a very high standard of soccer outside of Dublin.

Mayo had to travel to Dublin (Richmond Park) for last years final.

Terryland Park would mean a 1,000+ crowd for the final. Athlone Towns excellent new ground would also be an ideal location.

Athlone would have been a good venue. I suspect smaller capacity may have been deemed an issue. There may be a promotional push to get as many women's , girl's teams to bring an entourage to the final as possible. The JODI stand in Dalymount has a larger capacity than the entire Lissywoolen facility at present.
