The Concacaf Gold Cup started last night in the US with a win for Canada over Costa Rica and a draw in the other game between Haiti and Guadeloupe. I'm going on Sunday to see two games at Giants Stadium, Honduras-Mexico and Panama-Cuba. US won the last Gold Cup in 2005. Winner goes to the 2009 Confederations Cup in South Africa.
Also the final on June 26, while Mexico and USA compete in the Copa America in Venezuela which two days later.

USA is cruising along with two wins so far in their group, Canada qualified for the q/f last night with a win over Haiti. Went to the two games on Sunday at GS, entertaining for us the neutrals with Honduras beating Mexico after Blanco was sent off for an elbow to the stomach of one of the Hondurans.

Why are there no horses anywhere to be seen in that footage.....?
I nearly crashed the car from laughing when i heard the ad for it on the radio. The announcer said it was "One of the biggest soccer tournaments in the world"

USA and Canada won their quarter final matches, and will play each other in the semis on Wednesday. Mexico beat Costa Rica who had two players sent off. In the final quarter final, Guadeloupe surprisingly beat Honduras 2-1 and will meet Mexico in the semis. Guadeloupe have been the surprise team of the tournament. They are not members of FIFA because they are officially part of France, so they do not contest the World Cup qualifiers. Their team is made up of mostly first and second generation Guadeloupans who play in France.

How come they are allowed to play in this tournament? FIFA are usually not favourable towards non FIFA teams playing againts FIFA teams

I am not too well up on these FIFA rules. But what if Guadeloupe wins this Gold Cup? The winner goes to the 2009 Confederations Cup in South Africa which is a FIFA tournament. I doubt they would be allowed to.
Speaking of non-FIFA teams, the US will be playing Catalonia later this year in Barcelona.

I see you finally made it to the top of the waiting list for that sense of humour bypass operation Dodge.
You should've said - I'd have sent flowers.... :D
P.S. Claude Makélélé is from DR Congo. No idea where you got Guadeloupe from.

It's Lilian Thuram who's from Guadeloupe. I don't think Dodge wants or needs a sense of humour bypass, but someone else could do with a transplant...

Mexico and US into the final on Sunday as expected. But Canada were hard done by as it looked like they equalized at 2-2 in injury time but the goal was wrongly ruled offside. Highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8Kt7eNSwYA Referees are generally terrible in Concacaf. Mexico beat Guadeloupe 1-0 in the other semi.

Yeah, he was way too casual. Could have been a lot more goals in this one. Howard made a stunning save in the second half there. Not a bad game. US fans were outnumbered again, by a large margin.
