In all fairness to the guy Micheal O Muircheartaigh has to be one of the greatest ever radio commentators...

"Colin Corkery on the 45 lets go with the right boot. Its over the bar. This man shouldn't be playing football. He's made an almost Lazarus-like recovery from a heart condition. Lazarus was a great man but he couldn't kick points like Colin Corkery. The ball is kicked out by Declan O'Keefe its dropping......" 1-5 to 0-8..well from Lapland to the Antarctic, that's level scores in any man's language".

Pat Fox has it on his hurl and is motoring well now ... but here comes Joe Rabbit hot on his tail ...... I've seen it all now, a Rabbit chasing a Fox around Croke Park !" Pat Fox out to the forty and grabs the sliothar, I bought a dog from his father last week. Fox turns and sprints for goal, the dog ran a great race last Tuesday in Limerick. Fox to the 21 fires a shot, it goes to the left and wide..... and the dog lost as well.

Sean Og o Hailpin.... his father's from Fermanagh, his mother's from Fiji, neither a hurling stronghold

Teddy McCarthy to John McCarthy, no relation, John McCarthy back to Teddy McCarthy, still no relation "

what a legend!

And then you get stuff like this from George Hamilton

"He's pulling him off! The Spanish manager is pulling his captain off"

But it would take Jimmy Magee to contribute this...

"Ardiles strokes the ball like it was a part of his anatomy"

:D

I often think it would be great to swap commentators with the GAA...

1) Hamilton @ the All-Ireland final:
"...a long puck out....Carter...Carey...Carter....back again to Carey...it's there!"
(Timespan: 12 seconds)

2) O Muircheartaigh @ Turners Cross (City v Celtic UEFA Super Cup 2002)
"...a high dropping ball into the middle of the field - beautifully controlled by Henrik Larsson! - Henrik Larsson is on the burst - still easily recognisable despite his shorn locks - he's past two players - oh what a shot from Henrik Larsson - a brilliant goal from Henrik Larsson, the man from Helsingborgs! We haven't seen a goal like that since 1969 when Olaf Pedersson scored for Malmo against Limerick at The Market's Field in the first round, first leg of what was then simply called the European Cup. And Olaf Pedersen was from Patrickswell, just up the road from Helsingborgs..."
(Timespan: 5 seconds)
