The cresent moon and star represent the unusually bright moon which Turks/Muslims credit with 'saving' their forces at Istanbul, if i recall correctly.

Perhaps in its lopsided form, Drogheda are somehow paying tribute to the utter lack of salvation at the battle of the boyne.

Drogheda Town Crest (http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en-commons/thumb/6/60/100px-Drogheda-crest.png)

Louth GAA (http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/4/4c/LouthGAA.PNG) got a bit carried away adding Boyne bridge (apparently its in Meath)

The star and crescent [on Drogheda town's civic crest] are the royal seal of King John, who gave the town its charter.
Just as well you didn't pick the three lines! :D
